Sergeant Major James K. Gray

Sergeant Major James K. Gray is a native of Eagle River, Alaska and enlisted out of Denver, Colorado in April of 1999. He attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) San Diego, California, Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton, California and Field Artillery Cannon Crewman Course, at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, earning the occupational specialty of 0811.  
 
Sergeant Major Gray has served in every tactical leadership position from Howitzer Section Chief to Battery Gunnery Sergeant across the Field Artillery community. He trained, certified, and deployed on multiple systems including the M105 salute howitzer, M198 and M777 howitzer (A1/A2) platforms.
 
Sergeant Major Gray's Fleet assignments include 1st and 2nd Battalion, 11th Marines, located in Camp Pendleton, California, and 1st Battalion, 3rd Battalion, and 5th Battalion,10th Marines, located in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. His supporting establishment assignments include Marine Corps Security Forces Cadre, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; Marine Corps Recruiting Command, Recruiting Station Denver, Recruiting Sub Station Colorado Springs North and South, Colorado; and Marine Forces Reserve Inspector-Instructor Duty at 4th Combat Engineer Battalion, Lynchburg, Virginia. 
 
Sergeant Major Gray deployed several times throughout his career: four occasions in support of Marine Expeditionary Unit's (MEU), 31st MEU (twice), 24th MEU, and 13th MEU. During these deployments he participated in the Non-combatant Evacuation Operation in Beirut, Lebanon. He additionally participated in several joint and multinational training engagements with the Pakistan, Korean, Philippine, Japanese, and Jordanian military. Sergeant Major Gray deployed  in support of Regimental Combat Team 6, at Fallujah, Iraq, as a convoy security element. Sergeant Major Gray deployed twice as a fire and effects Foreign Security Force Advisor: once at Combat Observation Post H3, Al Anbar Province, Iraq, and another at Kabul, Helmand, and Herat Provinces, Afghanistan.   
 
Sergeant Major Grays military education includes all Marine Corps Enlisted Professional Military Education pipeline from Corporals Course through Commandant's Combined Commandership Course. He has attended the Senior Enlisted Professional Military Education residence Course located at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia. Sergeant Major Gray is a graduate of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy Course (Class 71) located at Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas, and is currently completing the Expeditionary Warfare School Blended Seminar in Okinawa, Japan.
 
Sergeant Major Gray's civilian education includes an Associates of Arts in Leadership Communication, a Bachelors of Science in Organizational Leadership and a Masters of Science in Strategic Leadership with a focus on crisis management. Sergeant Major Gray’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (2nd award), Navy Commendation Medal (3rd award), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (6th award) and Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal. Sergeant Major Gray is a recipient of special honors from the Field Artillery community for his steadfast contributions, earning an induction into the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara and awarded the corresponding medal.
 
Sergeant Major Gray is married his beautiful wife Iris and they have three energetic boys, Jimmy, Andy and Kenny.
