Sergeant Major Mangio was born in the city of Manila in the Republic of the Philippines. He immigrated to the United States at the age of 11 and began training with Platoon 3080 aboard Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California on 28 May 2001. Private First Class Mangio graduated from Recruit Training with the Honor Platoon on 24 August 2001. Upon completion of leave, he reported to the School of Infantry - West where he completed the Infantry Rifleman Course with Bravo Company, Infantry Training Battalion to attain the military occupational specialty of 0311 Infantry Rifleman.

On 1 November 2001, Private First Class Mangio reported for duty with 2d Battalion, 4th Marines and was assigned as a Rifleman in the First Platoon of Golf Company. After being welcomed to "The Magnificent Bastards," he was promoted to lance corporal on 2 January 2002. Lance Corporal Mangio deployed to Okinawa, Japan on 7 July 2002 for an extended duration of 51 weeks and participated in humanitarian operations in response to the East Timor crisis.

Lance Corporal Mangio was promoted to corporal on 1 October 2003 and was immediately trained for small unit leadership by the 1st Marine Division Schools in preparation for Operation Iraqi Freedom II. Tasked with security and stability operations, Joker Company deployed to Ar Ramadi, Iraq on 18 February 2004. On the morning of 6 April 2004, coordinated attacks by insurgent forces marked the end of the peacekeeping mission. From 6 to 10 April 2004, the Magnificent Bastards fought valiantly to defeat a determined enemy. After several months of sustained combat, Corporal Mangio returned with Joker Company to Camp Pendleton on 24 September 2004.

Corporal Mangio was promoted to sergeant on 2 December 2004. Upon re-enlistment, he received orders to Weapons and Field Training Battalion for duty as Marksmanship Coach. After several selections as Coach of the Quarter, he was assigned as a Primary Marksmanship Instructor. In response to service-wide personnel surge efforts, he trained 18 platoons comprised of over 1,251 recruits.

Sergeant Mangio reported to 1st Bn, 4th Marines on 29 February 2008. As the First Squad Leader for the Second Platoon of Bravo Company, he prepared his squad for planned operations in complex urban terrain. On 5 October 2008, he deployed to Al Fallujah, Iraq to lead the last Marine patrols in the city. Sergeant Mangio was promoted to staff sergeant on 1 December 2008 at Battle Position Burgess, inside the Fallujah Government Compound. On 3 March 2009, Second Platoon closed the final chapter of the Iraq conflict by relinquishing control of Outpost Burgess to the Iraqi government. On 13 August 2009, Staff Sergeant Mangio was designated by General James T. Conway, the 34th Commandant of the Marine Corps as the last Marine to leave the symbolic city of Fallujah.

Upon returning from deployment, Staff Sergeant Mangio was approved for Special Duty Assignment at the School of Infantry - West. He graduated from the Marine Combat Instructor School on 11 December 2009 as the Class Gung Ho recipient. Upon graduation, he was assigned to Echo Company, Infantry Training Battalion for duty as Rifle Platoon Commander. On 11 January 2011, he was selected to serve as the Battalion's Academics Chief where he became the central point of coordination between the six entry level courses that produced Basic Infantrymen, Infantry Riflemen, Machine Gunners, Mortarmen, and Anti-Tank Missilemen. Upon graduating from the Formal School Manager Course on 26 April 2013, Staff Sergeant Mangio was appointed as the Formal School Manager for Infantry Training Battalion during the Fiscal Year 2013 Commanding General's Inspection Program.

On 2 December 2013, Staff Sergeant Mangio reported to 2d Battalion, 1st Marines for duty as Infantry Unit Leader. He was assigned to Echo Company to serve as the Third Platoon Sergeant. After completing all required amphibious qualifications, Third Platoon deployed with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit on 25 July 2014. Upon returning from deployment, Staff Sergeant Mangio was assigned to Weapons Company to take charge of Combined Anti-Armor Team Red. He was promoted to gunnery sergeant on 1 July 2015.

Upon promotion, Gunnery Sergeant Mangio received orders to report to Wounded Warrior Battalion - East, Detachment San Antonio where he was blessed to serve the Marine Corps' most severely wounded, ill, and injured Marines and their families. He was promoted to first sergeant on 5 April 2019. He reported for duty with 3d Supply Battalion in Okinawa, Japan on 13 July 2019 where he served as the Supply Company First Sergeant for 28 months. During this assignment, he completed the Senior Enlisted Professional Military Education Course in Quantico, Virginia graduating with Class 1-22 on 19 November 2021. He was assigned to 3d Maintenance Battalion on 1 December 2021 where he served as the Motor Transport Maintenance Company First Sergeant for 16 months.

On 24 October 2022, First Sergeant Mangio was entrusted to serve as the Battalion Sergeant Major for 3d Maintenance Battalion and was promoted to sergeant major on 31 January 2023. He reported to Marine Aircraft Group 12, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing aboard Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan on 11 April 2023. Sergeant Major Mangio was appointed as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader for the "Bats" of Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 242 on 13 April 2023.

Sergeant Major Mangio's personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with gold star in lieu of second award, the Navy Commendation Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal with two gold stars in lieu of third award, and the Combat Action Ribbon. He is married to the former Michelle Banaban of Long Beach, California. Together they have two children, Jayden and Matthew.
