Major Dean R. Oltman

Maj Oltman joined the United  States Marine Corp via direct commission, earning his commissioning as a 2ndLt after OCS in March of 2002. After completion of the basic school in October 2002 he reported to NAS Pensacola to begin pilot training, earning his wings on 31 July 2004.  First Lieutenant Oltman reported to HMLA-303 at Camp Pendleton to begin training on the AH-1W.
 
1stLt Olman complete AH-1W SuperCobra training in March 2005 and reported to Helicopter Marine Light Attack (HMLA)-369 where he served as an operations schedule writer and various other billets. 1stLt Oltman would deploy twice to Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), as well as be promoted to Captain over the next three years.
 
In January 2008 Captain Oltman  reported to 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines. As the Air Officer for the battalion, Captain Oltman particpated in Exercise FOAL Eagle in March of 2008 and then deployed back to OIF in October of the same year.  Upon returning from OIF, Capt Oltman reported to Expeditionary Warfare School EWS in Aug 2009, graduating the course the following spring.
 
After a three month tour as an Academics Instructor at Officer Candidate School (OCS), Capt Oltman returned to MAG-39 and reported into HMLA-469 in September of 2010.  Capt Oltman would continue his duties as an AH-1W pilot as well as occupy the Current Operations Officer and Maintenance Quality Assurance Officer billets.  While at HMLA-469 Capt Oltman would execute Individual Augment (IA) orders to I Marine Expeditionary Force (I MEF) in order to deploy to Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) in February 2012. While with Regional Command Southwest (Afghanistan) Capt Oltman worked as the Rotor Wing Fragger and JTAC Manager. Upon completion of the IA, Capt Oltman returned to HMLA-469 and was promoted to Major on 1 April 2013.  
 
Major Oltman executed orders to Expeditionary Training Group Atlantic (EWTGLANT) in Virginia Beach, Va to be a Joint Terminal Attack Controller Instructor (JTAC-I). As Course Manager, Maj Oltman, would take part in two separate rewrites of the JTAC Course of Instruction (COI), while also completing synchronization with Expeditionary Training Group Pacific (EWTGPAC).
 
In August of 2016 Maj Oltman arrived in Stuttgart, Germany, executing joint orders to the J5 Africa Command (AFRICOM).  While at AFRICOM Maj Oltman worked as a contingency plans officer. During his tour at AFRICOM, Maj Oltman would also occupy the Executive Officer billet, selected to run the day to day operations for the J5 Director and Deputy Directors.
 
In June of 2019, Maj Oltman would move back to San Diego and check in to the United States Ship (USS) Essex, where he performed the duties as Air Operations Officer. Maj Oltman would continue those duties as the ship was deployed with the 11th Amphibious Readiness Group / Marine Expeditionary Unit (ARG/MEU) in August of 2021.  
 
Upon returning from deployment March 2022, Maj Oltman executed orders to Marine Corps Base Hawaii (MCBH) assuming the roll as Executive Officer for Marine Wing Support 174 in July 2022.
 
Maj Oltman is married to Tammy Hymas; they have one daugther Logan Everly (5).
 
Maj Oltman's decorations include Air Medal Strike-Flight "13", Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various other unit and campaign awards.
