Biography

First Sergeant
GySgt Leon

GySgt Leon was born in Greeley, Colorado on February 14, 1975.  He enlisted in the Marine Corps in October 1998 and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California.  Upon graduation, he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Private First Class.  In February 1999, he reported to the School of Infantry (SOI), Camp Pendleton, California where he attended Marine Combat Training (MCT).

Upon completion of MCT, Private First Class Leon was transferred to Supply School, Marine Corps Service Support Schools, Camp Johnson, North Carolina where he received the MOS of 3043, Supply Administration Clerk.  In April 1999, Private First Class Leon was the Honor Graduate of his class and was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.  Upon graduation from Supply School, Lance Corporal Leon was assigned to III Marine Headquarters Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa, Japan.  During his tour, he served as the Mechanized Allowance List Clerk as well as the Fiscal Clerk.

In April of 2000, Lance Corporal Leon reported to the Sassy Management Unit, Marine Corps Communication Electronics School, Headquarters Company, Marine Air Ground Task Force Training Command, Twenty-nine Palms, California.  Upon reporting for duty, he assumed duties as the Mechanized Allowance List Clerk.  On 2 September 2000, Lance Corporal Leon was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Corporal and assumed the duties as the Reparable Issue Point Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge.  On 2 May 2002, Corporal Leon was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Sergeant.  In April of 2003, Sergeant Leon requested and received orders to Drill Instructor School Class 3-03, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California.

Upon graduation of Drill Instructor School in June of 2003, Sergeant Leon was assigned to Company K, 3rd RTBN where he served as a Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor for eight cycles.  In October 2005, Sergeant Leon was reassigned to Support Battalion, Instructional Training Company, Academic Instruction Platoon.  He was assigned as a First Aid Instructor.  On 1 April 2006, Sergeant Leon was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant.

After a successful tour of drill instructor duty, Staff Sergeant Leon was transferred to Weapons Training Battalion, Training Command, Quantico, Virginia in September 2006.  He was appointed as the Battalion Supply Chief.  From May to August of 2007 and 2008, Staff Sergeant Leon was selected as a summer augment for Officer Candidate School, Training Command, Quantico, Virginia as a Sergeant Instructor for Company A and B.  Upon completion of second augmentation, Staff Sergeant Leon returned to his Parent Command and was appointed as the Competition Rifle/Pistol Management Section Chief in support of the Marine Corps Rifle/Pistol Teams. 

In July of 2009, Staff Sergeant Leon was transferred to Combat Logistics Regiment 35, 3D Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa, Japan.  Staff Sergeant Leon was appointed as the Regimental Training Chief.  In December 2009, Staff Sergeant assumed the duties as the Regimental Operations Chief.  On 1 January 2010, Staff Sergeant was promoted to his present rank of Gunnery Sergeant.  From February to April 2010, Gunnery Sergeant Leon deployed to South Korea for Freedom Banner, an MPF off-load exercise, as the Arrival and Assembly Operations Group, Operations Chief.  In December 2010, GySgt Leon was selected as an individual augment for the MARCENT-FWD, United Arab Emirates Presidential Guard Training Advisory Team.  Upon his return, Gunnery Sergeant Leon was appointed as the Future Operations Chief for Combat Logistics Regiment 35.  Gunnery Sergeant Leon transferred to his present command of Marine Air Control Group 18, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, Okinawa, Japan and was assigned as the Group Supply Chief.

Gunnery Sergeant Leon’s personal awards include: Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (Gold Star in Lieu of 3rd Award) and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (Gold Star in Lieu of 2nd Award).
