Biography

Sergeant Major
SgtMaj Christian L. Charkowski

Sergeant Major Charkowski graduated from high school in 1993 and enlisted in the Marine Corps. After graduation from Boot Camp and Marine Combat Training he attended Military Police Occupational Specialty School at Fort McClellan, Alabama. His first duty assignment was Marine Corps Base Camp Lejuene, North Carolina, where he served as Gate Sentry, Patrolmen and Desk Sergeant. He was meritoriously promoted to Corporal in 1996.

 

In February of 1997, Sergeant Major Charkowski was transferred to Marine Wing Liaison Kadenia in Okinawa, Japan as a Marine Customs Inspector. While in Okinawa Sergeant Major Charkowski was promoted to Sergeant and requested orders to Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California. He attended Drill Instructor School Class 3-98 and upon graduation was assigned to Company M, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion. Sergeant Major Charkowski was promoted to Staff Sergeant in 2000.

 

In July 2001, Sergeant Major Charkowski was transferred to Military Police Company 1st Fleet Service Support Group. He was deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003 while assigned to the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit. Upon his return he requested orders to Assistant Marine Officer Instructor duty, Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Madison, Wisconsin. While assigned to the NROTC unit he was a Sergeant Instructor at Officer Candidate School during the summers of 2004 and 2005. Sergeant Major Charkowski was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in 2006.

 

Sergeant Major Charkowski then received orders to Military Police Company, 1st Marine Division. Upon his arrival he was sent to the I Marine Expeditionary Force as the Ground Combat Element Commanding General's Personal Security Officer and deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from January 2008 to February 2009.

 

In February 2009, Sergeant Major Charkowski was promoted to First Sergeant and was assigned as a Company First Sergeant in Truck Company Bravo and Headquarters and Service Company, Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division, Weapons Company, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines, and Region 6, Marine Corps Embassy Security Group, stationed in Johannesburg, South Africa.

 

In June 2014, Sergeant Major Charkowski was promoted to his current rank and received orders to Okinawa, Japan as the 3rd Combat Assault Battalion Sergeant Major.

 

Sergeant Major Charkowski's personal awards include (3) Meritorious Service Medals, (4) Navy Commendation Medals, (2) Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medals, Air Force Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
