Lieutenant Colonel Geoffrey T. Blumenfeld was born in Greenbrae, California. He grew up in Granite Bay, CA and graduated from US Naval Academy in May 2005, earning his commission as a Second Lieutenant. Upon completion of The Basic School in January 2006, he reported to MATSG-21 Pensacola, Florida and was designated a Naval Aviator on 30 November 2007 for follow-on training at HMM(T)-164 at Camp Pendleton, California in the CH-46E.
In June 2008, First Lieutenant Blumenfeld reported to HMM-166, MAG-16 at MCAS Miramar where he served as the Ground Safety and NATOPS Officer deploying with the Aviation Combat Element of the 11th MEU 09-02 from August 2009 – April 2010. First Lieutenant Blumenfeld was promoted to Captain in September 2009. Upon return to MCAS Miramar, Capt Blumenfeld was selected to transition HMM-166 to VMM-166 and reported to VMM(T)-204 at MCAS New River, North Carolina in May 2010 for initial MV-22B training. Upon completion in Aug 2010, he returned to the re-designated VMM-166 as the Flight Equipment and Ordnance Officer-in-Charge.
Captain Blumenfeld deployed with VMM-166 as part of the first West Coast MV-22B MEU deployment with the 13th MEU from September 2013 – April 2014 as the Current Operations Officer. Upon return to MCAS Miramar, Capt Blumenfeld executed a permanent change of station to HMX-1 Quantico, VA in July 2014, obtaining the White House Tiltrotor Aircraft designation and served as a White House Liaison Officer. Captain Blumenfeld was promoted to Major in September 2015.
Major Blumenfeld executed orders from HMX-1 in August 2017, and reported to VMM-265, MAG-36 Okinawa, Japan as the Operations Officer. He participated in a 31st MEU patrol from March – April 2018 and numerous bi-lateral exercises within the III MEF AOR from April 2018 – April 2019. In May 2019 Major Blumenfeld checked into MAG-36 HQ as the Operations Officer and held that billet until June 2020, executing permanent change of duty orders to VMM-363, MAG-24 Kaneohe Bay, HI.
Major Blumenfeld assumed the duties of Executive Officer of VMM-363 and deployed with the unit from March – Sept 2021 for Marine Rotational Force – Darwin 21.2. Major Blumenfeld was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in October 2021 and currently serves as the MAG-24 Executive Officer.
LtCol Blumenfeld’s personal decorations include Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
