Major Matthew T. Miller

Major Matthew T. Miller was born on 16 February 1987 in Douglasville, Georgia. After graduating from The Georgia Institute of Technology with a Bachelor’s of Science in International Affairs in May 2009, he received his commission as a Second Lieutenant and reported to The Basic School (TBS) in October. Upon completing TBS in May 2010, he was assigned to the “Warriors” of Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 24 (MALS-24) aboard Marine Corps Base Hawaii.


After completing the Aviation Supply Officer Basic Qualification Course at Naval Station Newport, Rhode Island, in December 2010, he was assigned as the MALS-24 Squadron Support Division and Supply Accounting Division Officer in Charge (OIC).


In December 2011, First Lieutenant Miller transferred to HMH-362 to serve as the Squadron’s Material Control Officer for their deployment to Camp Bastion, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In this role, First Lieutenant Miller was responsible for all retrograde actions of CH-53D specific supplies and equipment in support of the T/M/S sundown. Upon returning from deployment in September 2012, First Lieutenant Miller supported the Squadron’s final sundown requirements until the end of the year.


In January 2013, First Lieutenant Miller reported to Marine Aircraft Group 24 (MAG-24) where he served as the Fiscal Officer until reporting to Marine Helicopter Squadron One (HMX-1) in May 2013. Upon arrival, First Lieutenant Miller was assigned as the Squadron’s Fiscal Officer, and in June 2014, Captain Miller transferred to the Aviation Supply Department where he served as the Material Management Division Officer. In February 2015, Captain Miller assumed the duties of Assistant Aviation Supply Officer.


Selected on the FY17 Commandant’s Education Board, Captain Miller reported to the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) to study Operations Research in June 2017. In June 2019, Major Miller graduated with a Master’s of Science in Operations Research and a Master’s of Science in Applied Mathematics.


After graduating NPS, Major Miller reported to Marine Corps Logistics Command (MARCORLOGCOM) aboard Marine Corps Logistics Base, Albany. There, he assumed the duties of a Logistics Analyst within the G-3/5 where he developed and supported Force Design initiatives related to ground enterprise logistics and prepositioning and led POM planning and development on behalf of MARCORLOGCOM and its subordinate commands.


In May 2022, Major Miller reported to MALS-24 as the Aviation Supply Officer. While in this role, Major Miller provided aeronautical materiel support to the dynamic flightline of MAG-24. This included supporting existing units and the deactivation of HMLA-367 and HMH-463, the activation of VMGR-153, and the Type/Model/Series transition of VMU-3 from the RQ-21 to the MQ-9. In July 2023, Major Miller assumed the role as Executive Officer, MALS-24.


Major Miller’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. Major Miller is married to the former Suzanne Deer of Gray Court, South Carolina, and they have one son, Samuel, and one daughter, Abigail.
