Major Christopher G. Montgomery grew up in Lake Worth, FL and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps in May 2008, having completed his undergraduate education at the U.S. Naval Academy graduating with a B.S. in Economics.
Following The Basic School, Undergraduate Pilot Training and the Fleet Replacement Squadron, he was assigned to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 165, Marine Aircraft Group 16 in March 2012. During this tour, Captain Montgomery served as Adjutant, Legal Officer, and Future Operations Officer before becoming the Pilot Training Officer following completion of Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course 2-15.
In June 2013, Captain Montgomery deployed to Camp Bastion, Afghanistan, in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM 13.2/14.1. In May 2015, Captain Montgomery deployed to Al Jaber Airbase, Kuwait as part of Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force-Crisis Response-Central Command 15.2.
Capt Montgomery reported to Marine Aviation Training Systems Site Camp Pendleton in March of 2016 and served as the Operations Officer and 3d MAW MV-22B Flight Leadership Standardization Evaluator Program Coordinator until July 2017.
In July 2017, Captain Montgomery reported to Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One in Yuma, AZ and served as a MV-22B Instructor Pilot. In May 2018, Major Montgomery assumed the additional billet of Aviation Safety Officer, serving in both capacities until May 2020.
In May 2020, Major Montgomery reported to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 268 and served as Logistics Officer, Director of Standardization and Safety, Aircraft Maintenance Officer, and ACE Operations Officer before assuming his current billet of Executive Officer during the VMM-268 (REIN) deployment to RAAF Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia as part of Marine Rotational Force – Darwin 22.2.
Major Montgomery’s personal decorations include the Air Medal w/ Flight (Bronze Numeral “4”), Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal (gold stars in lieu of third award), and the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal (gold stars in lieu of third award). He has logged over 1,900 flight hours primarily in the MV-22B.
Major Montgomery is married to Major Dalhia Montgomery of La Joya, TX, currently assigned as the Staff Secretary to the Commander, Marine Corps Forces Pacific (MARFORPAC).
