Lieutenant Colonel Grissett was born in Birmingham, Alabama. She grew up in Montgomery, Alabama and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Linguistics from the University of Mississippi. In August of 2003 Gideon Grissett was commissioned a Second Lieutenant through the Reserve Officer Training Corps and then completed The Basic School thereafter. Second Lieutenant Grissett reported to Combat Engineer Officer Course at Camp Lejeune and graduated on 23 September 2004.
In October 2004, Second Lieutenant Grissett reported to 9th Engineer Support Battalion, 3d MLG where she served as an Engineer Platoon Commander. During this period she deployed to Sri Lanka with Combined Support Force-536 in support of Humanitarian Assistance/Disaster Relief (HA/DR) operations, serving as the future operations officer and liaison officer to NMCB-7 and the local Galle government. In addition, her platoon completed two vertical construction projects for schools in two separate Thailand provinces during Exercise Cobra Gold. Second Lieutenant Grissett deployed as the Enginneer Platoon Commander and then the Assistant Operations Officer with CLB-31, 31st MEU in Okinawa where a second HA/DR mission was executed. After returning to CONUS, First Lieutenant Grissett was assigned as a Series Commander and Company Commander at 4th Recruit Training Battalion at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island.
Captain Grissett was selected by the Commandant’s Career-Level Education Board to attend Expeditionary Warfare School in Quantico in 2009. Upon completion Captain Grissett was assigned as the Engineer Company Commander at MWSS-271, Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point. During that time, she deployed with 2d MAW (FWD) as the G4 Engineer Officer in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Upon return from deployment, Captain Grissett served as the Squadron Operations Officer, then again deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom with a detachment from the Squadron. After the deployment she returned to MWSS-271 as the Squadron Executive Officer until her transition to CLB-15 in July 2014. Major Grissett completed a 15th MEU deployment to the Central Command Area of Operations with CLB-15 as the Battalion Operations Officer and the Executive Officer before completing her time at Camp Pendleton as the 1st MLG G3 Future Operations Officer.
Major Grissett was selected by the Commandant’s Professional Intermediate-Level Education Board to attend the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island in 2017. During that time, she also completed Maritime Advanced Warfighting School. Major Grissett completed her MAGTF Planner tour with Marine Corps Forces Central Command (MARCENT) at MacDill AFB, serving in the G3 Future Operations section as well as the lead Iran Planner in the G5. Lieutenant Colonel Grissett completed her time at MARCENT as the Chief of Plans. She participated in numerous joint planning and wargame events, developing combined naval plans with NAVCENT in support of Central Command requirements. Lieutenant Colonel Grissett relocated to Hawaii and serves as the MWSS-174 Commanding Officer.
Lieutenant Colonel Grissett’s qualifications include MAGTF Planner and Weapons and Tactics Instructor-Aviation Ground Support. Her personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal 4th award, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal 2d award, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
