Born and raised in Reno, NV, Sergeant Major Turek enlisted in the Marine Corps in October of 2003 and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California. Following recruit training, he reported to Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry, Camp Pendleton, CA and was trained as an Infantry Rifleman.
In April 2004, Sergeant Major Turek executed orders to 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division where he attended the Basic Reconnaissance Course. Upon graduating, he deployed twice with 1st Reconnaissance Battalion in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) 5-7 and with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) in support of OIF 6-8.
In December 2007, Sergeant Major Turek reported to the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center in Bridgeport, CA. There he served as a Team Leader for the Mountain Leaders Course and Chief Instructor for the Reconnaissance Detachment.
In April 2011, Sergeant Major Turek reported to Force Reconnaissance Company, III MEF in Okinawa, Japan deploying in support of the Joint Special Operations Task Force – Philippines. After his deployment to the Philippines, he served as a Reconnaissance Team Leader in support of the 31st MEU, H&S Company Gunnery Sergeant, and Alpha Company Operations Chief for 3d Reconnaissance Battalion.
Sergeant Major Turek then reported to Force Reconnaissance Company, I MEF in Camp Pendleton, CA in March 2013 serving as a Platoon Sergeant. In January 2014, he was then assigned as a Platoon Sergeant for Bravo Company, 1st Reconnaissance Battalion deploying in support of the 15th MEU.
In June 2016, Sergeant Major Turek reported to Marine Corps Forces, Europe and Africa in Stuttgart, Germany. Serving as a Joint and Combined Exercise Planner and Exercise Chief for the G-37, he supported operational planning teams and large-scale exercises throughout Europe and North Africa.
Sergeant Major Turek reported into 3d Marine Raider Battalion in March 2019. There he served as the Company First Sergeant for Lima Company deploying twice in support of operations in East Africa and USINDOPACOM. Additionally, he served as the HQ Company First Sergeant for Marine Raider Regiment from October 2022 to February 2023.
In February 2023, Sergeant Major Turek was promoted to his current rank and reported to 1st Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion where he currently serves as the Battalion Sergeant Major.
His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal w/ gold star, the Navy Commendation Medal w/ gold star, Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal w/ gold star, Philippine Bronze Cross Medal (Foreign Award), and the Combat Action Ribbon.
Sergeant Major Turek is a graduate of the Joint Special Operations Force’s Senior Enlisted Academy and holds a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership from the University of Charleston – West Virginia.
