SgtMaj Amaker
Sergeant Major Amaker assumed his current post as the Marine Air Support Squadron Two (MASS-2) Sergeant Major on April 25, 2014. A native of Greensboro, North Carolina he joined the United States Navy in July 1991 and attended recruit training at the Naval Training Center Orlando, Florida in February 1992. He worked as Intelligence Specialist while assigned to Anti-Submarine Warfare Squadron Twenty One (VS-21). After serving three years active duty and two years in the reserves, Sergeant Major Amaker decided to join the Marine Corps after a spending a short time in college. He attended basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina, and he graduated as the platoon honor man on February 14, 1997. He reported to the School of Infantry East at Camp Geiger, North Carolina and graduated as a 0311 Infantry Rifleman in May of 1997.
Throughout his career, Sergeant Major Amaker has been assigned to numerous division, training, and wing units. His billets and assignments include: Assistant Fire Team Leader, Team Leader, Infantry Squad Leader, Marine Security Guard, Assistant Detachment Commander, Scout Sniper Platoon Sergeant, Rifle Platoon Sergeant, Weapons Platoon Sergeant, Rifle Platoon Commander, Company Gunnery Sergeant, Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, Chief Drill Instructor, and Company First Sergeant. Sergeant Major Amaker has also served as Company First Sergeant, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, MCRD San Diego, California; Company First Sergeant Military Police Company, 2d Marine Aircraft Wing; Company First Sergeant H&S Company, 2d Amphibian Assault Battalion; Company First Sergeant, H&S Company, Headquarters Battalion, 2d Marine Division, and Sergeant Major of MASS-2.
Sergeant Major Amaker has attended all of his resident and non-resident professional military education. He has attended numerous skill enhancement schools that have allowed him to effectively lead Marines in combat and professionally develop Marines into positions of greater responsibility. He recently served as a board member for the FY15 Gunnery Sergeant Selection Board. Additionally, he has attended the U. S. Army Sergeants Major Academy, located in Fort Bliss, Texas and graduated with Class-62 in June of 2012. He also attended the United States Air Force First Sergeant Seminar in Atlanta, Georgia in 2010. He has numerous personal awards and has completed numerous deployments.
