SgtMaj Douglas M. Hester
Upon graduating from high school SgtMaj Hester joined the Marine Corps and shipped to recruit training at Parris Island, SC in August 1994. After the completion of recruit training he was a student at Light Armored Vehicle School, ITB, Camp Pendleton, CA. He then received order to 2D Light Armored Reconnaissance (LAR) Battalion in the MOS 0313 (Light Armored Vehicle Crewman)
In March 1995 he checked into 2D Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion and was assigned as scout, Delta Co 3rd Plt. As a scout he deployed with 2D Bn 2D Marines, Battalion Landing Team 2/2, 22D Marine Expeditionary Unit. Aboard the USS Tortuga he participated in Operation Joint Endeavor, Operation Assured Response, and Operation Quick Response.
In May 1999 he was assigned to Bravo Co 2nd Plt as a Vehicle Commander of a LAV-25. He deployed with 1st Bn 8th Marines, Battalion Landing Team 1/8, 22D Marine Expeditionary Unit aboard the USS Portland.
In January 2003 SgtMaj Hester reported to Recruiters School, MCRD San Diego CA. Upon completion of Recruiters School he was assigned to the 4th Marine Corps District, Recruiting Station Louisville, KY; Recruiting Sub-Station Fairfield Ohio in the MOS 8411. In 2005 he was reassigned as SNCOIC of Recruiting Sub-Station Paducah, KY. In 2006 he was reassigned as SNCOIC of Recruiting Sub-Station Florence, KY where he was SNCOIC of the Year for FY 2006.
In January 2007 SgtMaj Hester reported for duty to 2D Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion. He was assigned as Platoon Commander, Delta Co, Wpns Plt. He deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from March to Oct 2008. In November 2008 SgtMaj Hester was assigned as Plt Sgt, 1st Plt Charlie Co. Here he deployed to Afghanistan in Support of Operation Enduring Freedom from May to Nov 2009.
In January 2011 he was promoted to the rank of 1stSgt and assumed duties as the Inspector Instructor First Sergeant, Direct Support Motor Transport Co , Combat Logistics Battalion 451, Combat Logistics Regiment 45 Orlando, Florida.
In June of 2014, he was assigned to the Ground Combat Element Integrated Task Force where he served as the Company 1stSgt during Line of Effort 3 of the Commandants’ Force Integration Campaign Plan. In July 2015, 1stSgt Hester assumed duties as the Company 1stSgt, Utilities Instruction Company, Marine Corps Engineer School, Camp Lejeune, NC.
SgtMaj Hester was promoted to his current rank in May 2016 and assumed duties as VMM-268 Squadron Sergenat Major
His personal decorations include: Navy Commendation Medal (5th Award) with Combat “V”, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4th Award), Combat Action Ribbon.
