Major Daniel W. Steller

Major Steller commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in November 2007 and, upon graduating from The Basic School in July 2008, reported to Introductory Flight School (IFS). After completing IFS, he underwent flight training at NAS Pensacola, Florida; NAS Corpus Christi, Texas; and NAS Whiting Field, Florida. He earned his Naval Aviator designation in June 2010 and subsequently reported to HMHT-302 at MCAS New River, North Carolina, for initial CH-53E Super Stallion training.

In January 2011, Major Steller joined HMH-466 at MCAS Miramar, California. With HMH-466, he deployed to Camp Bastion, Afghanistan, in January 2012 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). During his assignment to HMH-466, he served as the S-2 Officer in Charge, S-5 Officer in Charge, and within the operations department.

He attended the Tactical Air Control Party Course in Coronado, California, in May 2013, earning his Forward Air Controller designation. That August, he reported to the 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion (3d LAR) at MCAGCC Twentynine Palms, California, serving initially as a Forward Air Controller and later as the Battalion Air Officer.

In August 2014, Major Steller joined HMH-462, serving as the Airframes Officer in Charge and subsequently as the Quality Assurance Officer. He deployed to MCAS Futenma, Okinawa, Japan, in May 2015 as part of the Unit Deployment Program (UDP).

May 2017 saw Major Steller transition to SERE East, assuming duties as the Marine Detachment Officer in Charge. While there, he also served as a SERE Instructor, Watch Officer, Operations Officer, and Training Department Head.

In July 2021, Major Steller and his family arrived at MCAS Iwakuni, joining Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron (H&HS) where he served as the Airfield Operations Officer. He transitioned to H&HS Company Commander in June 2022 and subsequently held the positions of Training Officer and Director of Safety in 2023.

July 2024 marked a move to Camp Foster, Okinawa, where Major Steller joined 1st Marine Aircraft Wing as the Aviation Safety Officer. In December 2024, he transferred to Guam to serve as the MAGTF Planning Officer and J-3 Deputy Director of Joint Task Force Micronesia for six months before returning to Okinawa to assume the role of Executive Officer for Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 1.

Major Steller has accumulated over 1,600 flight hours, including more than 800 hours in the CH-53E. His personal awards include the Air Medal with Numeral Three, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. He is married to the former Lindsay Holland and together they have three children, Donovan (9), Shay (7), and Phoebe (5); a bad cat named Toyo; and two good cats, Tomashi and Sumo. Lindsay is currently attempting to adopt any stray cats that approach their home.
