Colonel Millett was raised in Belmont, Massachusetts and commissioned as a Marine Corps Second Lieutenant in 1998.
As a Company Grade Officer, Colonel Millett served as a Platoon Commander and Executive Officer with Battery A, 2d Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion. Selected for flight training, he earned his Naval Flight Officer wings in 2002. He subsequently served as an F/A-18 Weapons Systems Officer with VMFA(AW)-225 and VMFA(AW)-121, completing two Unit Deployments to the Western Pacific. In 2007, Colonel Millett deployed to Iraq as a Forward Air Controller with 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines. He graduated from both the Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN) and the Marine Corps' Weapons Tactics Instructor Course (WTI).
His assignments as a Major included additional service with VMFA(AW)-121 and VMFA(AW)-225, as well as a tour as the Aircraft Maintenance Officer for VMFA(AW)-242 at MCAS Iwakuni, Japan. He completed three additional Western Pacific deployments and graduated with distinction from the U.S. Naval War College. During this time, he also conducted a Limited Objective Experiment while flying OV-10G+ aircraft for U.S. Special Operations Command.
Lieutenant Colonel Millett served as the Operations Officer for Marine Aircraft Group 12, Commanding Officer of VMFA(AW)-533, Operations Officer for Marine Aircraft Group 31, and Legislative Liaison at Headquarters Marine Corps’ Office of Legislative Affairs. He completed one additional Western Pacific deployment and graduated from the Advanced Strategic Art Program at the U.S. Army War College.
Most recently, Colonel Millett served as the Expeditionary Air Warfare Branch Head on the Navy Staff at OPNAV N98.
Colonel Millett’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (4th Award), Navy Commendation Medal (2nd Award / Combat Distinguishing Device), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (10th Award). He has logged more than 2500 mishap-free flight hours.
