Lieutenant Colonel Godfrey, a native of Miami, Florida, attended the University of Florida where he participated in the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) program. In December 2001, he received a commission as a Second Lieutenant after earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) with a major in management.
Second Lieutenant Godfrey reported to The Basic School (TBS) in January 2002 and completed Basic Officer Course (BOC) 2-02 in July 2002. After TBS, he reported to Camp Johnson, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina for Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) training. In November 2002, he graduated from Logistics Officers Course (LOC) 4-02 as a 0402, Logistics Officer.
In December 2002, Second Lieutenant Godfrey reported to 1st Battalion, 3d Marines (1/3), Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. He completed three deployments during this tour which included: Unit Deployment Program (UDP) in 2003, Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) in 2004, and Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) in 2006. During his tour with 1/3 he served as Maintenance Management Officer, Motor Transport Officer, and Assistant Logistics Officer. Promoted to First Lieutenant in December 2003, he concluded his tour with 1/3 following promotion to Captain in July 2006.
In August 2006, Captain Godfrey reported to the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute (DEOMI), Patrick Air Force Base, Cocoa Beach, Florida. While assigned to DEOMI, he served as Marine Corps Service Liaison Officer and Operations Officer, Equal Opportunity Training Directorate. During this tour Captain Godfrey earned his Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from Webster University and received orders to Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, North Carolina.
In June 2009, Captain Godfrey reported to Marine Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Squadron-2 (VMU-2) where he served as Logistics Officer-in-Charge. While assigned to VMU-2, Captain Godfrey deployed as an individual augment with Marine Expeditionary Brigade-Afghanistan (MEB-A) and served as Afghanistan National Security Forces (ANSF) Logistics Director. Following this deployment, Captain Godfrey reported to Marine Air Control Group 28 (MACG-28) where he served as Assistant Logistics Officer and eventually Logistics Officer.
In July 2011, Captain Godfrey returned to Camp Johnson, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina for duty at the newly established Marine Corps Logistics Operations Group (MCLOG). While assigned to MCLOG, Captain Godfrey served as Department Head for Advanced Individual Training and Course Manager for Intermediate MAGTF Logistics Operations Course (IMLOC). In June 2012, Captain Godfrey reported to Logistics Operations School (LOS). Promoted to Major in October 2012, Major Godfrey commanded Motor Transport Maintenance Instructional Company. He relinquished command in June 2013 prior to returning to the Fleet Marine Force (FMF).
In July 2013, Major Godfrey reported to Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center (MCAGCC), 29 Palms, California where he served as Operations Officer, Combat Logistics Battalion 7 (CLB-7). While assigned to CLB-7, he deployed as the Logistics Combat Element (LCE) Operations Officer in support of OEF. In October 2014, Major Godfrey transferred to 7th Marine Regiment where he served as Logistics Officer. During this tour, Major Godfrey deployed as the Logistics Officer, Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force-Crisis Response-Central Command (SPMAGTF-CR-CC).
In May 2016, Major Godfrey reported to Manpower Management Officer Assignments (MMOA), Quantico, Virginia where he served as Combat Service Support Majors Monitor. In July 2018, he returned to The Basic School to serve as Operations Officer. He was promoted to his present rank in October 2018. In May 2020, Lieutenant Colonel Godfrey reported to Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Iwakuni, Japan for assignment to Marine Wing Support Squadron 171 (MWSS-171).
Lieutenant Colonel Godfrey’s personal decorations include: Meritorious Service Medal with three gold stars, Joint Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with three gold stars and Combat Distinguishing Device, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and Combat Action Ribbon.
