SgtMaj. Joshua S. Bynum

Sergeant Major Bynum enlisted into the Marine Corps on October 26, 2004, and attended recruit training at Golf Company, 2nd Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina. Upon graduation, First Sergeant Bynum was assigned to the School of Infantry in Camp Geiger, North Carolina for Marine Combat Training (MCT) where he was promoted to the Private First Class.  After completing MC, he was assigned to Ft. Lee, Virginia where he completed Bulk Fuel Specialist Course, receiving the occupation specialty of 1391. 

In May 2005, he reported to Marine Wing Support Squadron 373 in San Diego, California. Thereafter, he would be promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal in August of 2005. In October 2006, he was attached to Marine Wing Support Squadron 374, where he was promoted to the rank of Corporal before deploying to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In September 2008, he would again deploy with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, serving as a Bulk Fuel Specialist. Upon his return, he would be promoted to the rank of Sergeant. After completing his tour, he assigned to Marine Corps Air Facility aboard Quantico, Virginia. 

Sergeant Major Bynum arrived in Quantico, Virginia May 2009. While in Quantico, he served as the Fuel Accountant and Fuel Laboratory Technician. In June 2012 he received orders to 7th Engineer Support Battalion in Camp Pendleton, California. During this time, he served as the Platoon Guide and Platoon Sergeant of 1st Platoon, Bulk Fuel Company. In April 2014, he volunteered for Drill Instructor duty aboard Parris Island, South Carolina where he served as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor and Chief Drill Instructor at Golf, Fox, and Hotel Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion. While serving as a Drill Instructor, he was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant. 

After his successful completion of Drill Instructor Duty, he reported to Marine Wing Support Detachment 31 in Beaufort, South Carolina in July of 2017. During this time, he served as a Team Leader and unit Ground Safety Officer. He was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant on October 1, 2018, before deploying to Moron Air Base, Spain in support of SPMAGTF-CR-Africa. In June 2019, he was assigned to Marine Wing Support Detachment 24 located at Marine Corps Base Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, where he served as Bulk Fuel Chief.  

In March 2022, he executed a Permanent Change of Assignment from Marine Wing Support Squadron 174 to Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Headquarters Battalion, where he served as the Fuels Chief for the Defense Fuel Supply Point Kaneohe Bay. In June 2023, he was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant and received orders to 1st Radio Battalion where he served as the senior enlisted leader for Alpha Company and Headquarters and Service Company.  

Sergeant Major Bynum was frocked to the rank of Sergeant Major in June of 2026 and received orders to Marine Wing Support Squadron 171, where he currently serves as the command senior enlisted leader. 

His personal awards include: The Navy Commendation Medal w/2 gold star's in lieu of  3rd award, and Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal w/2 gold star's in lieu of 3rd award.
