Major Test currently serves as the Executive Officer, Marine Aerial Refueler Squadron 152 (VMGR-152) aboard Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Iwakuni, Japan.
Major John Test was born on 9 August 1984 in Harrisburg Pennsylvania. He was commissioned in the United States Marine Corps as a Second Lieutenant in March of 2009 through the Officer Candidate School. He completed his undergraduate education in business and marketing at Salisbury University (MD) in 2006 after transferring from Francis Marion University (SC) in 2004. He reported to The Basic School and graduated with ‘Charlie’ Company in October 2009. Following The Basic School he reported to VT-28 in Corpus Christie, TX for primary flight training and then on to HT-28 in Milton, FL for follow on advanced helicopter training. He was winged a Naval Aviator in January 2012 and was selected to fly the UH-1Y Venom.
After completion of Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS) training aboard Camp Pendleton, CA He was assigned to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron (HMLA) 269 the ‘Gun Runners’ where he served as the NATOPS Officer, Flight Line Officer, and Quality Assurance Officer. During this tour he deployed on the 22ND Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) with VMM-263 Reinforced from January 2013 to October 2013. Upon return he was temporarily re-assigned to HMLA-467, the ‘Sabers’, to support UH-1Y operations until October of 2015, when the Sabers were officially sun downed. He then returned to HMLA-269 for the remainder of his tour before reporting to 2D MAW in March of 2016 where he worked in the G-3 as the Rotary, Tiltrotor and Fixed Wing Frag Officer.
In September of 2016 Major Test was ordered to MATSG-21 in Pensacola as a primary fixed wing instructor assigned to VT-3 the ‘Red Knights’. There he served as the Student Control Officer, Foreign Liaison Officer, Senior Marine and completed his tour as the Fixed Wing Instructor Training Unit (FITU) Operations Officer.
In 2018 Major Test attended Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, CA where he earned his Masters of Business Administration in finance with a focus in defense acquisition.
In 2019 Major Test was accepted for a conversion/transition request to fly the venerable KC-130J Hercules. In March of 2020 he was assigned to MCAS Cherry Point, NC for initial training. Following core training, he was assigned to MAG-12 where he served as the Director of Safety and Standardization aboard MCAS Iwakuni, prior to assuming the role as Executive Officer with the ‘Sumos’ of VMGR-152
Major Test is married to the beautiful Courtney Flowers Test and has one daughter Hannah Rose and one son William Robert.
Major Test’s personal decoration include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement medal.
