Sergeant Major Erick R. Richburg

Sergeant Major Richburg was born in Washington, D.C. He completed recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina, on November 17, 2000. Upon graduation, Private First Class Richburg attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger, North Carolina, followed by the Enlisted Basic Warehousing Course at Camp Johnson, North Carolina. He was meritoriously promoted to Lance Corporal upon completing the course.

In March 2001, Lance Corporal Richburg reported to Ordnance Maintenance Company, 3rd Materiel Readiness Battalion, 3rd Force Service Support Group, Okinawa, Japan, where he served as a basic warehouseman. During this tour, he deployed with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit aboard the USS Essex, supporting humanitarian operations in East Timor, Thailand, and the Philippines.

In April 2002, he was promoted to Corporal and assigned to Marine Forces Atlantic (MARFORLANT), Norfolk, Virginia, serving as a warehouse and receiving noncommissioned officer. From August 2002 to December 2003, Corporal Richburg was selected to serve as the driver for the Commanding General of MARFORLANT.

In December 2003, Corporal Richburg reported to Company B, 2d Amphibious Assault Battalion, 2d Marine Division, where he served as the Supply Chief. He was promoted to Sergeant on February 1, 2004. In February 2005 and again in September 2006, Sergeant Richburg deployed to Fallujah, Iraq, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, serving as both Supply Chief and Warehouse Chief.

In July 2007, Sergeant Richburg reported to Drill Instructor School, Class 4-07, at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island. Upon graduation, he was assigned to 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, where he served as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, and Chief Drill Instructor for Companies M and L. He was meritoriously promoted to Staff Sergeant in 2009.

In October 2010, Staff Sergeant Richburg reported to The Basic School, Training and Education Command, Quantico, Virginia, where he served as Headquarters and Service Company Gunnery Sergeant, Supply Chief, and Warehouse Chief. In May 2013, he augmented Officer Candidate School as a Sergeant Instructor.

In October 2013, he reported to Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, where he served as the Station Property Warehouse Chief and Squadron Gunnery Sergeant. He was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant on October 1, 2014.

In November 2015, Gunnery Sergeant Richburg returned to Camp Lejeune and reported to Combat Logistics Regiment 25, where he served as Company Gunnery Sergeant and Company First Sergeant. After being frocked to First Sergeant, he reported to the School of Infantry–East in April 2018 and was assigned as Company First Sergeant for Company B, Infantry Training Battalion, and later Company M, Headquarters and Support Battalion.

In February 2020, First Sergeant Richburg reported to 3rd Battalion, 8th Marines, serving as Headquarters and Service Company First Sergeant. In April 2020, he was reassigned to Weapons Company and deployed with the battalion to Okinawa, Japan, from October 2020 to May 2021.

In August 2021, First Sergeant Richburg reported to Marine Wing Communications Squadron 18 in Okinawa. After selection to Sergeant Major, he reported to 3d Intelligence Battalion and assumed duties as the Battalion Sergeant Major in March 2022.

In April 2025, Sergeant Major Richburg assumed his current assignment as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader for Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 1.

Sergeant Major Richburg’s personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with gold star in lieu of sixth award, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with gold star in lieu of third award.

He is married to Shamese Richburg. Together, they have four children: Erick, Shaniya, Shayla, and Serenity.
