Major Nicholas J. Cormier is a native of San Antonio, Texas and is a first-generation Marine. He attended Texas A&M University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Leadership and Development in 2010. He was commissioned in February 2011.
Upon completion of The Basic School, Major Cormier attended the Marine Air Traffic Control (ATC) Officers Course at Pensacola, Florida. Major Cormier’s first assignment was with Marine Air Control Squadron (MACS) 4, Okinawa, Japan where he served as the Squadron Training Officer, Squadron Substance Abuse Control Officer, Company Operations Officer and Company Commander. He was subsequently assigned to 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) where he served as the Marine Air Traffic Control Mobile Team (MMT) Officer in Charge.
Upon completion of his tour with 31st MEU, Major Cormier was reassigned to Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Beaufort, Headquarters and Support (H&S) Squadron, where he served as the Air Traffic Control Assistant Facility Officer. Major Cormier deployed as an Individual Augmentee to Iraq as the J-33 Deputy Chief of Operations with CJFLCC-OIR in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. Upon completion of his tour, Major Cormier was reassigned to MACS-2, Beaufort South Carolina, where he served as the Company Commander. Major Cormier was then assigned to the Expeditionary Warfare School (EWS) resident school in Quantico, Virginia. Upon graduating EWS, Major Cormier was assigned to III MEF Support Battalion in Okinawa, Japan where he served as Company Commander and Battalion Operations Officer. Major Cormier was then re-assigned to Marine Air Control Group 18 as the Group Weapons and Tactics Training Program (WTTP) Officer prior to joining Marine Wing Communications Squadron 18.
His company grade tours included Crew Officer for MCAS Futenma, MMT OIC for Marine Rotational Force-Darwin, and WTTP Officer. He was the Company Commander for the supporting field unit ISO ITX 1-19 and WTI 1-19.
As a field grade officer, Major Cormier served as the Support Company Commander – III MEF Support Battalion and III MEF Operational Planning Team member for C2CP ISO distributed command posts. Major Cormier was the Site Commander for III MEF Combined Command Post Training 21.1 and Freedom Shield 23 in South Korea, and Battalion Operations Officer – III MEF Support Battalion. Major Cormier’s most recent assignment was with MWCS-18 as the Executive Officer.
Major Cormier is a graduate of the Marine Air Traffic Control Officers Course, Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course for both C3 (ADMOS 7277) and the MMT Leader Course, Expeditionary Warfare School, and Advanced Expeditionary Logistics Operations Course (ADMOS 0477).
His personal awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
