Lieutenant Colonel Ermis was born in Florida. After graduating high school, he attended Texas A&M University and in 2007, enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve completing Recruit Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) San Diego. He graduated in August 2007, as the Kilo Company Honor Graduate, and was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal. He then reported to Headquarters Company 1st Battalion 23rd Marines in Houston, Texas as a Field Radio Operator. In 2008, he graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and subsequently commissioned via the Officer Candidate Course Program. Following graduation, he attended The Basic School, and then reported to NAS Pensacola, Florida in May of 2009 for flight training.
In May of 2011, First Lieutenant Ermis was designated a Naval Aviator reporting to the KC-130J Aircrew Training Unit at MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina. Upon completion in November of 2011, First Lieutenant Ermis reported to VMGR-152 the “Sumos”, at MCAS Futenma, Okinawa, Japan, promoting to the rank of Captain in October of 2012. During his tour, Captain Ermis served as the Assistant Airframes Division Officer, Substance Abuse Control Officer, and Flight Duty Officer. He participated in the Philippine Humanitarian Efforts during Operation Damayan, Exercise Cobra Gold twice, Philippine Bilateral Exercise (PHIBLEX), Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC), and numerous other exercises across the INDO-PACOM AOR.
In July of 2014, Captain Ermis reported to 2nd Marine Raider Support Battalion, Marine Raider Support Group, Marine Special Operations Command. During this tour, Captain Ermis served as the Battalion Assistant Operations Officer and attended Tactical Air Control Party School, and was qualified as a Forward Air Controller. He deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan serving as a Future Operations Planner for Special Operations Joint Task Force, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
In July of 2016, Captain Ermis reported to VMGR-352 the “Raiders” where he served as the Flight Officer, Aircrew Training Officer, Crewmaster Division Officer in Charge and Director of Safety and Standardization. During this tour he attended and graduated from the Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course and deployed to Al Jaber Kuwait as the Operations Officer for VMGR-352 Detachment Alpha to Special Purpose, Marine Air Ground Task Force, Crisis Response, Central Command in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. In September of 2018 he promoted to the rank of Major.
In July of 2019, Major Ermis attended the College of Naval Command and Staff at The Naval War College, in Newport, Rhode Island, earning a Masters of Arts in Strategic Studies in June of 2020.
In July of 2020, Major Ermis returned to VMGR-352, initially serving as the Director of Safety and Standardization. In March of 2021, he assumed the role as the Squadron Operations Officer. In September of 2021, he deployed of Djibouti, Africa, in support of Operation New Normal, as the Officer in Charge for VMGR-352 Detachment Bravo and Executive Officer of the East Africa, Aviation Combat Element. Upon return from deployment, Major Ermis assumed the role of Squadron Executive Officer.
In March of 2023 Major Ermis reported to Headquarters Marine Corps Aviation, Aviation Warfare Systems – Assault Support where he served as the KC-130J and OSA Lifecycle Manager. In June of 2024 he was promoted to his current rank.
In June of 2026, Lieutenant Colonel Ermis assumed command of Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron (VMGR) 153.
