Major Elvin Vasquez enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2002. He reported for duty in 2003 to Marine Aircraft Group 39 (MAG-39) in Camp Pendleton, CA and subsequently deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Upon his return, he was accessed to the U.S. Naval Academy via the Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS) in Newport, RI graduating NAPS in 2005.
Upon his graduation from the Naval Academy in 2009, Second Lieutenant Vasquez completed The Basic School and the Aviation Supply Basic Officer Course. He reported to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 16 (MALS-16) where he was assigned as the OIC of both the Supply Accounting Division and Squadron Support Division. He deployed with MAG-16 (FWD) in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 10.2 in the same capacity. Upon returning from deployment, he was assigned as the Supply Response Division OIC. First Lieutenant Vasquez reported to the MAG-16 Commanding Officer to serve as the MAG Fiscal Officer in 2011. Upon his return to the supply department, he briefly served as the Consumables Management Division OIC before being assigned as the Assistant Aviation Supply Officer.
In 2013, Captain Vasquez reported to MAG-49 aboard Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst to serve as the active-duty Site Aviation Supply Officer, MAG Fiscal Officer, MAG Logistics Officer and Site Ground Supply Officer, concurrently. In 2016, he received orders to MALS-24 and served as the Repairables Management Division OIC. In 2017, following a manning gap in the Operations Department, he was assigned as the interim Operations Officer after which he assumed duties as the Assistant Operations Officer.
Captain Vasquez reported to the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit as an individual augmentee where he served as the Senior Watch Officer in the Landing Force Operations Center aboard the USS WASP (LHD-1) through Amphibious Integration Training, CERTEX and in support of exercise SSANG YONG 2018 after the MEU formed a MEB-afloat alongside the USS BONHOMME RICHARD (LHD-6). Upon return to MALS-24 as the Assistant Operations Officer, in 2018, he was interviewed and selected to serve as Aide-de-Camp to the Deputy Commander, Marine Corps Forces, Pacific.
Major Vasquez reported to the Naval Postgraduate School in 2019. Upon graduating in 2021, he reported to the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations to serve as the Expeditionary Warfare Analyst within the Expeditionary Warfare and Combat Logistics branch of Warfighting Assessments. He is currently serving as a Defense Systems Analyst within Seapower Assessments.
Major Vasquez reported to MALS-24 in 2023 to serve as the Operations Officer until June of 2024. He is currently serving as the Executive Officer.
Major Vasquez holds a Bachelor of Science in Political Science Degree from the US Naval Academy (2009), a Master of Cost Estimating and Analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School (2017), a Master of Science in Management in Defense System Analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School (2021) and completed non-resident JPME Phase I (Command and Staff) with the Naval War College. His personal decorations include three Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, three Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals and the Good Conduct Medal.
