Sergeant Major (SgtMaj) Lampley enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on 13 November 2000. He entered recruit training at MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina, where he graduated on 9 February 2001. Private (Pvt) Lampley attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger, North Carolina, graduating with Echo Company on 10 March 2001 and transfered to NAS Pensacola, Florida for training as an Avionics Technician. He was promoted to Private First Class (PFC) on 1 May 2001 and graduated from Organizational maintenance training on 31 July 2001 and meritoriously promoted to Lance Corporal (LCpl). Transferring to "C" school aboard MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina, LCpl Lampley earned the MOS 6316 (Comm/Nav Systems Tech, KC-130 Aircraft) and was assigned to Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Training Squadron 253 (VMGRT-253).
Meritoriously promoted to Corporal (Cpl) on 2 June 2002, he was sent to NAS Pax River, Maryland to be part of the KC-130J Integrated Test Team and in November 2002, Cpl Lampley would PCA to VMGR-252. While assigned to VMGR-252, he would deploy with KC-130F/R model aircraft attached to the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) on an Adriatic Phiblex, the KC-130J Operational Evaluation det, and earn his Collateral Duty Inspector qualification. Cpl Lampley was promoted to Sergeant on 1 January 2005 and deployed to Al Asad, Iraq from August 2005 to February 2006 in support of OIF 4-06. Upon return, Sgt Lampley received orders to Marine Security Guard Battalion class 5-06, graduating in September 2006 and was assigned to Detachment Jakarta, Indonesia. In October 2007, Sgt Lampley was assigned as the Assistant Detachment Commander (A/DetComdr) Detachment Tirana, Albania and meritoriously promoted to Staff Sergeant (SSgt) on 2 July 2008. In October 2008, SSgt Lampley was assigned as the A/DetComdr Detachment Tel Aviv, Israel.
In October 2009, SSgt Lampley PCS'ed to VMGR-352 aboard MCAS Miramar, California as the Comm/Nav Work Center Supervisor. While at VMGR-352, SSgt Lampley would participate in Weapons and Tactics Instruction (WTI) 1-10 and 1-11, deploy to Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti and Chaklala Airbase, Pakistan with the 15th MEU in July 2010 and again to Camp Lemonnier with the 11th MEU in December 2011, become a Maintenance Controller, and gain his Safe-for-Flight qualification. In May 2013, SSgt Lampley received orders back to Marine Corps Embassy Security Group, class 4-13, for Detachment Commander (DetComdr) Training.
In June 2013, SSgt Lampley took command of Detachment Algiers, Algeria and in December 2014 would rotate to Detachment Ankara, Turkey. On 1 July 2015, SSgt Lampley was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant (GySgt). After a successful tour, GySgt Lampley received orders to VMGR-234 at NAS/JRB Fort Worth, Texas. At VMGR-234, GySgt Lampley was assigned as the Avionics Work Center Supervisor and Squadron GySgt. In July 2019, GySgt Lampley PCS'ed to VMGR-152 aboard MCAS Iwakuni, Japan for duties as the Comm/Nav Work Center Supervisor. GySgt Lampley was promoted to First Sergeant (1stSgt) on 1 March 2020.
In July 2020 1stSgt Lampley received orders to 1st Battalion, 25th Marines at Fort Devens, Massachusetts where he was the Inspector-Instructor 1stSgt for H&S/WPNS Company. In July 2023, 1stSgt Lampley PCS'ed to Company B, Marine Wing Communications Squadron 18 aboard Marine Corps Base Hawaii Kaneohe Bay for duty as the Unit Senior Enlisted Leader. In February 2024 1stSgt Lampley was frocked to the rank of SgtMaj and reported to Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 268 for duty as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader.
SgtMaj Lampley is a graduate of the Navy’s Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 247 Green Group), has an Associates degree from AMU, and married Laura Elizabeth Pirog on 11 September 2011 in Larkspur, Colorado.
SgtMaj Lampley's personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one gold star in lieu of second award, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with three gold stars in lieu of fourth award.
