Sergeant Major Charneske was born on 10 December 1987 in Chicago, Illinois. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on 7 November 2006 and graduated from 1st Recruit Training Battalion, San Diego, California in February 2007. Upon completion of Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry at Camp Pendleton, California, he received the military occupational specialty of 0311.
In April 2007, Private Charneske reported to 2d Battalion, 8th Marines at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. While with the unit, he completed two combat deployments; one to Ramadi, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. and one to Helmond Province, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, and achieved the rank of Corporal. Upon reenlistment he received orders to Marine Security Guard School, Quantico, Virginia.
In December 2010, Corporal Charneske completed Marine Security Guard School and was sent to Marine Security Guard Detachment’s Baku, Azerbaijan; Prague, Czech Republic: and Lome, Togo. While serving with Marine Corps Embassy Security Group, Corporal Charneske was promoted to Sergeant and later meritoriously promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Upon completion of Marine Security Guard duty, Staff Sergeant Charneske received orders to 1st Battalion, 5th Marines in Camp Pendleton, California. Conducting one deployment as an 81mm Mortar Section Leader as a part of Marine Rotational Force – Darwin, Australia, and one deployment as a Rifle Platoon Sergeant in support of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit in Okinawa, Japan. Other billets held during his tour were 62 Area Guard Chief and Company Gunnery Sergeant.
In September 2016, Staff Sergeant Charneske received orders to Marine Barracks, Washington D.C. where he was assigned as a Platoon Sergeant, Company B and was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. While at Marine Barracks, Washington, D.C. Gunnery Sergeant Charneske was selected and assigned as the Silent Drill Platoon Sergeant representing the Marine Corps throughout the United States and abroad. In March 2019, Gunnery Sergeant Charneske reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego to serve as the G-3 Operations Chief.
In October 2021 Gunnery Sergeant Charneske was promoted to First Sergeant and executed orders to 1st Intelligence Battalion, Camp Pendleton, California where he served as the Battlespace Surveillance Company Unit Senior Enlisted Leader. In October 2023, First Sergeant Charneske executed orders to Headquarters Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, Okinawa, Japan, where he served as the Headquarters Company Unit Senior Enlisted Leader.
In April 2024, Sergeant Major Charneske was frocked to his current rank and executed orders to Combat Logistics Battalion 4 to serve as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader. Between January 2025 to May 2025, Sergeant Major Charneske was temporarily assigned to Combat Logistics Regiment 37 to serve as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader. During this period Sergeant Major Charneske supported the 80th Reunion of Honor Ceremony, honoring veterans from the battle of Iwo Jima.
In July 2025, Sergeant Major Charneske assumed his current role as the Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadran 262 (VMM-262) Command Senior Enlisted Leader.
An advocate for continuous learning, Sergeant Major Charneske is a Senior Enlisted Professional Military Education graduate, holds a Master's Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance, a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, an Associates Degree in General Studies, and an Undergraduate Certificate in Human Resources from American Military University.
Sergeant Major Charneske’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, w/ two gold stars, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation w/ two gold stars, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal w/ one gold star, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
