Sergeant Major Kevin P. Hopkins

Sergeant Major Kevin P. Hopkins is a native of Providence, Rhode Island. He enlisted into the Marine Corps in October 1998,
and reported to Company G, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. Upon graduating
from recruit training, he reported to Marine Combat Training (MCT), School of Infantry, Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune N.C.
for training. After completing MCT, he reported to Fort Sill, OK for duty as a student in the Artillery Cannon Crewman Course in
March 1999, earning the military occupational specialty (MOS) 0811.


Following graduation from Artillery Cannon Crewmen Course, Private First Class Hopkins reported to Golf Battery 2d Battalion,
10th Marines Camp Lejeune NC. During this assignment he deployed on a Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) where his unit
supported operations in Kosovo. He achieved the billet of Howitzer Section Chief, and the rank of sergeant during this period.
Upon completion of his tour at 2d Battalion, 10th Marines in June of 2003, Sergeant Hopkins received orders to Artillery
Instructor Battery, Quantico VA. For the next three years he assisted in instructing newly commissioned officers in call for fire
and military operations in urban terrain. He also conducted numerous ceremonial artillery salutes for VIPs, and 4th of July
ceremonies in Alexandria VA.


In July 2006, Sergeant Hopkins received orders to Lima Battery, 3d Battalion, 10th Marines, Camp Lejeune NC. He deployed
twice during this tour in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom/Global war on terrorism. One of them serving as a infantry squad
leader in Fallujah, Iraq. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant during this tour.


During the summer of 2009, Staff Sergeant Hopkins reported to Marine Corps Security Forces, Training Company, Chesapeake
VA. He served as a Close Quarters Battle Instructor Team Leader after obtaining the MOS 8154. He trained, certified, and
evaluated Recapture Tactic Teams (RTT), Fleet Anti-Terrorism Security Teams (FAST), and British Royal Marines in
building/room clearing tactics, and Visit Board Search and Seize (VBSS).


In 2012, Staff Sergeant Hopkins executed orders to Alpha Battery, 1st Battalion, 12th Marines, Kaneohe Bay HI. During this
time he conducted numerous training exercises from Lava Viper and Spartan Fury on the Big Island of Hawaii to exercises
conducted at Camp Rodriguez, South Korea. He also deployed to Okinawa Japan in support of the Unit Deployment Program
(UDP), and for his last deployment, he volunteered to serve as the SNCOIC for a security element in support of combat
operations in Zamboanga, Philippines during Operation Enduring Freedom with the Joint Special Operations Task Force
Philippines (JSOTF-P). He held billets of Security Staff Non- Commissioned Officer in Charge, Howitzer Platoon Sergeant, and
Battery Gunnery Sergeant. During this tour he was the recipient of the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara Medal for his
contributions to the artillery community, and the Philippine Civic Action Medal, awarded by the Philippine military.


In 2015 he received orders to Golf Battery, 3d Battalion, 14th Marines, Inspector Instructor Duty, Fort Dix NJ. While serving as
the Battery Gunnery Sergeant, he trained reservists in field artillery, conducting many artillery shoots in different locations
including deploying the battery to Tan Tan, Morocco in support of Operation African Lion. He held collateral duties such as
Arms, Ammunition, and Explosives Officer and Ground Safety Manager. In 2018 he was selected for promotion to the rank of
First Sergeant, and in 2019 received orders to report to Submarine Base Kings Bay, GA.


During the spring of 2019, First Sergeant Hopkins checked into MCSFBN Kings Bay, GA. He was assigned as the Company First
Sergeant for Company A. He served as the senior enlisted advisor in a dynamic environment executing a no fail mission for
strategic asset security. He finished his tour at the submarine base as the Headquarters and Service Company First Sergeant.
In February 2022, First Sergeant Hopkins reported to 3d Radio Battalion, III MEF Information Group. He served as the Company
First Sergeant for Company A, and Headquarters and Service Company. After serving eight months in the battalion, he was
selected to the rank of Sergeant Major. He was frocked to his present rank November 2022, and assigned the billet of Squadron
Sergeant Major, MWSS-174.


His personal awards include: Navy & Marine Corps Commendation Medal w/three Gold Stars, Navy & Marine Corps
Achievement Medal w/three Gold Stars and one combat "V" distinguish device, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
Sergeant Major Hopkins is married to the former Tina A. Jamerson, and they are the proud parents of five children and
grandparents to three.
