Major Roland Zech is a native of Texas. He attended college at the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) where he received his commission through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps program in 2013. Upon graduation from The Basic School and Logistics Officers Course, he was assigned to Headquarters Battalion, 3d Marine Division where he served as a Motor Transport Platoon Commander from October 2014 to September 2015 and an Assistant Logistics Officer from September 2015 to July 2016. Maj Zech extended in Okinawa and reported to Headquarter Regiment, 3d Marine Logistics Group where he served as the Maintenance Management Officer from July 2016 to January 2017, S-4 from January 2017 to October 2017, and Service Company Commander from October 2017 to June 2018. Following Maj Zech’s tour with Headquarters Regiment, he was selected to attend the Army Logistics University’s Logistics Captains Career Course (LCCC) at Fort Lee, VA.
Upon graduation from LCCC, Maj Zech reported to Marine Wing Support Squadron 473 in Miramar, CA to serve as the Headquarters Company Commander and Inspector Instructor staff. Upon completion of his tour with MWSS 473, Maj Zech transferred to 1st Intelligence Battalion on Camp Pendleton to serve as the Battalion Logistics Officer from March 2022 to June 2023. While with 1st Intel Bn, he was selected to attend resident Air Command and Staff College in Montgomery, AL from July 2023 to June 2024. Upon graduation, Maj Zech was stationed with U.S. Forces Korea in the Current Operations Division where he served as a Theater Watch Officer and the Chief of the Joint Operations Center until July 2026. Maj Zech reported to MWSS-172 in July 2026 and currently serves as the Squadron Executive Officer.
Maj Zech holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from VMI. He is a graduate of the Army Logistics University Logistics Captains Career Course, resident Air Force University Command and Staff College, and Advanced Expeditionary Logistics Operations Course. His decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two gold stars in lieu of third award), and Joint Service Achievement Medal.
