Sergeant Major Grant J. Moran

Sergeant Major Moran assumed his current post as the Marine Wing Support Squadron 172 Sergeant Major on June 2, 2025.A native of Casselberry, Florida, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on September 15, 2003, out of Orlando, Florida. He graduated from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) Parris Island, South Carolina, in December 2003 and reported to Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger, North Carolina, shortly after. He was assigned as a Electronic Countermeasures Technician as his military occupational specialty.

In April 2005, Sergeant Major Moran reported to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 14, Marine Aircraft Group 14, Cherry Point, North Carolina. In May 2006 he received orders to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 12 Iwakuni, Japan and served as an Avionics Technician, Collateral Duty Inspector, and Work Center Supervisor. In September 2008 Sergeant Major Moran received orders to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 14, Marine Aircraft Group 14, Cherry Point, North Carolina and was transferred to Marine Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron 3 and subsequently deploy to Al Asad Air Base, Iraq, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Following the end of his deployment we was transferred to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 14 Avionics Technician, Collateral Duty Inspector, and Work Center Supervisor.

In July 2012, Sergeant Major Moran reported to Drill Instructor School, Parris Island, South Carolina and graduated in September 2012. He was assigned to Company B, 1st Recruit Training Battalion and served as a Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor. In March 2014, he was transferred to the Instructor Staff, Martial Arts Section and served as SNCOIC. In November 2014 he returned to Company B and served as a Senior Drill Instructor and Chief Drill Instructor.

In November 2015, he reported to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 31, Beaufort, South Carolina and served as the Work Center 650 SNCOIC and Collateral Duty Quality Assurance Representative. In June 2016 he was transferred to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 115 (VMFA-115) and deployed to Iwakuni, Japan, in support of the unit deployment program and served as the detachment SNCOIC. In March 2017 upon return from deployment, he was transferred to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 31 and served as the Squadron Gunnery Sergeant.

In December 2017 Sergeant Major Moran reported to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 13, Yuma, Arizona, and served as the Work Center 650 SNCOIC, Collateral Duty Inspector, Assistant Security Manager, Anti-Terrorism Officer, and Avionics Department Gunnery Sergeant.

In July 2020 he reported to Officer Candidate School, Quantico, Virginia and served as a Physical Training Instructor, Sergeant Instructor, Platoon Sergeant, and Company Gunnery Sergeant. In May 2022 he was assigned to Company D and served as the Company First Sergeant.

In March 2023, Sergeant Major Moran reported to Marine Corps Forces Central Command and served as Company First Sergeant. He initiated and served as the Lead Instructor for Task Force 19, an episodic Subject Matter Expert Exchange between partner nation Armed Forces Senior Enlisted to enhance their Noncommissioned Officers and strengthen partnerships.

Sergeant Major Moran's personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two gold stars, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars.
