Sergeant Major Timothy C. Henley

Sergeant Major Henley was born on February 23, 1984 in San Diego, California and graduated Crawford High School in June 2002. In August 2002 he attended Boot Camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego. Upon graduating recruit training in November 2002, Sergeant Major Henley was transferred to Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry-West (SOI-W), Camp Pendleton, California.

Following his completion of training at SOI-W in January 2003, Sergeant Major Henley was assigned to his first unit 3d Battalion, 5th Marines Camp Pendleton, California where he held the billet of Rifleman. During his tour of duty, Sergeant Major Henley deployed multiple times to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Phantom Fury, Fallujah Iraq. Throughout his tenure at 3d Battalion, 5th Marines he held the billets of Team Leader, Squad Leader as well as was he was promoted through the ranks to Corporal.

In November 2005, Sergeant Major Henley received orders to Edson Range, Camp Pendleton, California where he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and served as Range coach. After producing respectable range qualification statistics, he was reassigned to the billet of Block NCO. In the ensuing months from June 2006 to March 2007, Sergeant Major Henley continued to produce respectable range statics and was internally promoted to the billet of Primary Marksmanship Instructor. In March 2007, Sergeant Major Henley was then reassigned to the Marksmanship Formal Schools Instructor, serving as Chief Instructor until his departure in May 2008.

In May 2008, Sergeant Major Henley rejoined 3d Battalion, 5th Marines, for a second tour of duty assigned as squad leader deploying on the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit Okinawa, Japan. In September 2009, Sergeant Major Henley was internally promoted to the billet of Platoon Sergeant and subsequently promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in January of 2010. In September of 2010, Sergeant Major Henley deployed to Sagin, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom until April 2011.

In April 2012, Sergeant Major Henley received orders to the School of Infantry-East, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina to serve in the billet of Combat Instructor. During Sergeant Major Henley’s tour at SOI-E, he served as Platoon Sergeant Company C, Primary Tactics Instructor Company C, and Company Gunnery Sergeant Company D until his departure in July 2015.

 In August 2015, Sergeant Major Henley received orders to 2d Battalion, 2d Marines Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. In October 2015, Sergeant Major Henley was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and was assigned to the billet of Battalion Assistant Operations Chief and deployed on the Unit Deployment Program to Okinawa, Japan from January 2016 to August 2016.

In April 2017, Sergeant Major Henley received orders for a second tour of duty to SOI-E as a Combat Instructor where he was assigned to Advanced Infantry Training Battalion, Infantry Unit Leader Training Company. While there he served as part of Infantry Small Unit Leader Course as instructor and Staff Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge. In February 2018, Sergeant Major Henley was transferred from Infantry Unit Leader Training Company to Advance Infantry Training Company (AITC) and internally assigned to the billet of AITC First Sergeant.

In May of 2019, Sergeant Major Henley was frocked to the rank of First Sergeant and transferred to 3D Law Enforcement Battalion, Okinawa, Japan where he served as the Company First Sergeant for Military Police Company A and Headquarters and Support Company. Prior to his transfer to Headquarters and Support Company, Sergeant Major Henley participated in Operation Task Force USS Theodore Revive Guam from April 2020 to May 2020. In July 2020, Sergeant Major Henley was selected to serve as the Battalion Sergeant Major, until the Battalion was deactivated in October of 2021.

In October 2021, Sergeant Major Henley report to Truck Company, Headquarters Battalion, 3d Marine Division to serve as Company First Sergeant and in August 2023 he was promoted to his current rank.

In September 2023, Sergeant Major Henley reported to his current command at MWSS-172 where he serves as Squadron Sergeant Major.

Sergeant Major Henley’s personal decorations include Meritorious Service Medal, Purple Heart (2nd Award), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4th Award, w/” V” device), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2nd Award), Combat Instructor Ribbon (2nd Award), Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), Humanitarian Service Medal, and Combat Action Ribbon (2nd Award).
