Lieutenant Colonel Jason C. Brooks grew up in Oxford, Michigan and enlisted in the Selected Marine Corps Reserve (SMCR) in June 1996. After graduation from PMOS school, he was discharged from active duty and joined Marine Wing Support Squadron 471 as an organizational automotive mechanic at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Mt Clemens, Michigan. Lieutenant Colonel Brooks was discharged from the SMCR in August 2003.
In September 2007, he reported to Officer Candidate School in Quantico, Virginia, and upon graduation, accepted his commission as a Second Lieutenant. Following The Basic School and Aircraft Maintenance Officer’s course, he reported to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 11 (MALS-11) at MCAS Miramar, California and was assigned to the Ground Support Equipment division.
In September 2008, Lieutenant Colonel Brooks executed orders to VMFA-323 and assumed the Material Control Officer billet. Over the next three years, he deployed aboard the USS John C. Stennis in support of a Western Pacific tour and the USS Ronald Reagan in support of Operation New Dawn, Operation Tomodachi, and Operation Enduring Freedom. In December 2011, he reported to MALS-11 and served as the Assistant Operations Officer.
In June 2012, he executed orders to the 3d Marine Aircraft Wing (MAW) Aviation Logistics Department and served as the Plans Officer. During his time at 3d MAW, Lieutenant Colonel Brooks planned, organized, and deployed with the 3d MAW’s composite aviation logistics squadron, MALS-70, in support of Marine Aircraft Group Afghanistan operations at Camp Bastion, Afghanistan.
After returning from Operation Enduring Freedom in August 2014, Lieutenant Colonel Brooks executed orders to Headquarters Marine Corps (HQMC), Manpower Management Enlisted Assignments (MMEA) in Quantico, Virginia and was assigned as the Aviation Unit Head, where he served for two years before transferring to the enlisted retention section. While serving at HQMC, he was selected for the rank of Major and received orders to serve in a joint billet with the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA). While assigned to DTRA, Lieutenant Colonel Brooks served in both the J2 and J7 departments and deployed as an augment to the NATO Special Operations Component Command – Afghanistan where he served as the J34 Force Protection and Counter-Improvised Threat Officer. He was designated a Joint Qualified Officer upon his transfer.
In July 2020, Lieutenant Colonel Brooks reported to MALS-11 and served as the Executive Officer until July 2023. During this tour, he was selected for the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Most recently, he served as the Aircrew Systems Requirements Officer on the OPNAV N98 staff.
Lieutenant Colonel Brooks holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Development from Oakland University and a Master of Science in Leadership and Organizational Dynamics from the University of Michigan-Flint.
His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal with “C” device, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two gold stars and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star.
