Sergeant Major James A. Meak

Sergeant Major James A. Meak was born in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on February 19, 2002 and reported for recruit training at MCRD, San Diego, California. After completing Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton, California in June 2002, he reported for Military Police School at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri where he received the Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) 5811 (Military Policeman). He graduated as the Honor Graduate and was meritoriously promoted.

In October 2002, Sergeant Major Meak reported for duty with Marine Corps Base (MCB), Okinawa, Japan. During his tour, he served as a Desk Sergeant and Watch Commander for Military Police District South, Camp Kinser. He received orders in October of 2004 to Headquarters and Service Battalion, MCRD, San Diego, California. While stationed with Headquarters and Service Battalion, he deployed to Fallujah, Iraq in July 2006 in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM as an individual augment with I Marine Expeditionary Force Forward. He served as the Force Protection Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge.

In April 2007, Sergeant Major Meak received orders to MCB, Okinawa, Japan. Sergeant Major Meak served as the Provost Marshal's Office Physical Security Chief for Marine Corps Bases, Okinawa, Japan.

In August 2011, Sergeant Major Meak received orders to Military Police Support Company, II Marine Headquarters Group, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He served as the Platoon Sergeant for General Support Platoon. In January 2012, Sergeant Major Meak was attached to the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit and deployed as the Antiterrorism Force Protection Chief. In February 2013, he reported to 2D Law Enforcement Battalion. He served as the Company Gunnery Sergeant and Company First Sergeant for Company “B”.

In August 2014, Sergeant Major Meak reported to Headquarters Battalion, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, California. He served as the Physical Security Chief, Watch Commander, Training, and Services Chief for the Provost Marshal's Office. On July 30, 2016 he received orders to Marine Security Guard School for Detachment Commanders School where he was the distinguished graduate. Sergeant Major Meak received the leadership award for his performance during the course.

In October 2016, Sergeant Major Meak was assigned as the Embassy of the United States, Tri-Missions, Vienna, Austria. He served as the Detachment Commander for U.S. Embassy Austria; the U.S. Mission to International Organizations in Vienna (UNVIE); and the U.S. Mission to the OSCE (USOSCE).

In March 2018, Sergeant Major Meak was screened and selected as an Instructor Advisor for the Marine Security Guard School in Quantico, Virginia.

In July 2019, Sergeant Major Meak reported to Combat Logistics Battalion 4, Combat Logistics Regiment 3, 3rd Marine Logistics Group where he served as the Transportation Service Company First Sergeant. In October 2020, he was assigned as the Headquarters and Service Company First Sergeant for Combat Logistics Battalion 4.

In July 2021, Sergeant Major Meak was assigned as the Senior Enlisted Leader for Ground Equipment Support Program 22.1 Darwin, Australia.

In June 2022, Sergeant Major Meak reported to Force Reconnaissance Company, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa, Japan and served as the Force Reconnaissance Company First Sergeant.

In November 2023, Sergeant Major Meak assumed the position of Command Senior Enlisted Leader for Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 36.
