Major Joshua Culver

Major Joshua Culver graduated Magna Cum Laude from State University of New York at Oswego in May, 2009. After graduating, he attended Officer Candidate School and received his commission as a Second Lieutenant in December, 2009.

Upon graduation from The Basic School in 2010, 2ndLt Culver checked into Marine Aviation Training Support Group 21 (MATSG-21) in Pensacola, Florida. In 2012, 1stLt Culver was assigned the MV-22B flight track and checked into MATSG-22 in Corpus Christi, Texas for advanced flight training. He was designated a naval aviator in January, 2013 and checked into Marine Medium Tiltrotor Training Squadron 204 (VMMT-204) aboard Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) New River to complete flight training. Once complete, 1stLt Culver checked into Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 261 (VMM-261).

In January 2014, Capt Culver deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom to Camp Bastion, Afghanistan with VMM-261. Later that year, Capt Culver re-deployed from Camp Bastion to Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait. In Kuwait, Capt Culver supported contingency operations ongoing against ISIS forces in Iraq and Syria.

In July 2015, Capt Culver deployed as part of the Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force Crisis Response Africa (SPMAGTF-CR-AF) 15.2. In November 2017, he deployed again with VMM-261 with SPMAGTF-CR-AF 18.1. During these deployments, Capt Culver participated in operations in France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, and aboard the Spanish amphibious assault ship Juan Carlos I.

In June 2018, Capt Culver checked into the Office of Legislative Affairs (OLA), Headquarters Marine Corps after acceptance into the Congressional Fellowship Program. Capt Culver served as a Calendar Year 2019 DOD Fellow in the office of Connecticut U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal. Upon completion of the fellowship, Maj Culver served a two-year utilization tour in OLA as a congressional liaison officer.

After refresher training at VMMT-202, Maj Culver checked into VMM-265 aboard MCAS Futenma in Okinawa to serve as the Operations Officer in April 2022. As the operations officer, Maj Culver participated in five bilateral exercises in Japan, and deployed with VMM-265 (REIN) on the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) 23.2 deployment. In October 2023, Maj Culver assumed the role of VMM-265 (REIN) Executive Officer.

Major Culver’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal-Strike/Flight, and the Navy-Marine Corps Commendation. He holds a Master’s degree in Public Policy (MPP) from George Mason University.
