Major Juan J. Iturriaga

Major Juan J. Iturriaga was born in Maracay, Venezuela and was presented at the U.S. Embassy in Caracas as a Birth Abroad U.S. Citizen in 1979.  The family moved back to the United States to Winter Park FL around 1990.  After graduating from Lake Howell High School, he joined the United Stated Marine Corps on 31 December 1996 and began his career as a Ground Supply Administrator with tours served at Headquarters and Support Battalion (H&S Bn) Marine Corps Base Butler (MCBB) Okinawa Japan from 1997-2003; Supply Management Unit (SMU), 2nd Supply Battalion, 2nd Force Service Support Group (2d FSSG) from 2003-2005; and subsequent selection and participation in the Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education Program (MECEP) from 2005 to 2008, graduating from the University of Maine with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.  He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in May 2008.

Major Iturriaga’s Operational assignments as a Supply Marine (3043 and 3002) include the SMU, 2nd Supply Battalion, where he served as the Customer Service NCO and Maintenance Battalion Liaison (2003-2005); 2d Assault Amphibian Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, where he served as the Assistant Supply Officer, and Supply Officer (2009-2011); Headquarters Battalion 2nd Marine Division, where he served as Division Supply Officer (2011-2012); Combat Logistics Battalion 31 (CLB-31), 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, where he served as the Battalion Supply Officer and Executive Officer of Troops on the USS BONHOMME RICHARD and the USS WASP (2017-2018); and Marine Air Control Group 18 (MACG-18), 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, where he currently serves as the Personnel Support Detachment 18 Commanding Officer and MACG-18 Group Supply Officer.

Major Iturriaga’s Supporting Establishment assignments include H&S Bn MCBB Base Food Service, where he served as a Supply Clerk, Fiscal Clerk, and Fiscal Chief (1997-2003); Operations Analysis Directorate, Deputy Commandant, Combat Development and Integration, Marine Corps Combat Development Command, where he served as a Defense Systems Analyst (2014-2017); Marine Corps Installations Pacific – Marine Corps Base Butler Assistant Chief of Staff G-4 (AC/S G-4), where he served as Deputy AC/S G-4 (2018-2020).

Along with his degree from the University of Maine, Major Iturriaga received a Master of Science in Management from the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS), attaining the additional military occupational specialty of 8852, Systems Analyst.  He completed the Non-Resident Expeditionary Warfare School curriculum while attending NPS (2012-2013); He is currently enrolled in the Command and Staff College Distance Education curriculum with an expected graduation in May of 2021.  Major Iturriaga’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two Gold Stars, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one Gold Star.
