11.08.2016 -- The Marine Corps is known for its fighting spirit and dedication to its Marines across all military occupational specialties. This dedication centers especially around the infantry, understanding that it is the Corps' main effort with other units as supporting elements. Marines with Marine Aircraft Group 36, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, III Marine Expeditionary Force, continually show this by the devotion they give to infantry units each and every day.
MAG-36 provides assault support, train with the infantry for casualty evacuation and also provide fire support for them, according to Col. Thomas Euler, the commanding officer of MAG-36.
“I think it’s important that once in a while we come back and assure that all of us understand that’s why Marine aviation exists,” said Euler, from Magnolia, New Jersey.
MAG-36 is in the process of putting the 3rd Marine Division logo on all UH-1Y Huey helicopters and MV-22 Osprey aircraft to show their support for the 3rd Marine Division infantrymen.
“Putting it on there not only shows the commitment we have for them with our maintainers or air crew, but also demonstrates to those Marines out in the field whom we support day in and day out that we’re there for them no matter what,” said Euler.
The logo also provides a connection between the MAG and ground personnel to show that they are not separate operating forces.
“That’s not just our logo on our aircraft and it lets everyone know that we are in this together,” says Staff Sgt. Charles Covington, an MV-22 Osprey mechanic with MAG 36.
“By knowing what the logo represents and that everything we do is in support of them, it makes me proud of what I do,” says Cpl. Christopher Madere, a UH-1Y Huey crew chief with MAG-36.
In the near future the logo, is expected to be painted on the remaining aircraft in MAG-36.
