Lieutenant Colonel Mitchell T. Maury
Lieutenant Colonel Mitchell Maury hails from Whitehall, Pennsylvania and is a graduate of the University of Maine with a B. A. in History and the University of Maryland with a M.P.S. in Leadership and Education Development. He joined the Marine Corps in 1999 and after attending the Officer Candidate School and The Basic School, he reported to Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida for flight duty. After completing Primary Flight Training and selecting KC-130s, he completed Advanced Flight Training and earned his wings at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, Texas. Subsequently, he was ordered to Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina to VMGRT-253 for initial training in the KC-130F/R/T.
Upon completion of his initial training, he reported to VMGR-352 based at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California. Following four years of service he next reported to VMGR-452 at Stewart Air National Guard Base, New York for assignment with the Marine Corps Reserves. After acceptance into the Naval Post Graduate’s Special Education Program, he attended the University of Maryland, College Park, received his M.P.S. in Leadership and Education Development and subsequently served at the United States Naval Academy. Following his tour in Annapolis and KC-130J transition training, Lieutenant Colonel Maury reported to VMGR-152 in Okinawa, Japan and remained with the squadron through their relocation to Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan. After being selected by the Commandant’s Professional Intermediate-Level Education Board, he reported to Washington to serve as a CMC Fellow at the United States Chamber of Commerce. Following this assignment, Lieutenant Colonel Maury received orders to the Pentagon and served as the CNO OPNAV N980E KC-130/OSA Requirements Officer. While assigned to the Pentagon, he was slated for command of VMGR-152 and subsequently moved to MCAS Iwakuni where he currently serves as the MAG-12 Executive Officer.
While in the fleet operational forces, Lieutenant Colonel Maury’s billet assignments included Administrative Officer, Flight Duty Officer, Aircrew Training Officer, Powerline Division Officer, Operations Officer and Executive Officer. His instructional duties while at the Naval Academy included Marine Corps Practicum Coordinator, Martial Arts Instructor, Boxing Instructor and Head Coach of Sprint Football.
Lieutenant Colonel Maury has deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (2003), Operation Iraqi Freedom II (2004), Operation Iraqi Freedom II (2005) and to the Philippines (2013) in support of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief operations (Operation Damayan).
Lieutenant Colonel Maury has completed the Advanced Airlift Tactics Training Course, Advanced Airlift Tactics Training Day/Night Course, Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course, Expeditionary Warfare School and Marine Corps Command and Staff School. His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with Gold Star, Strike/Flight Air Medal with numeral 7, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Gold Star, Humanitarian Service Medal as well as the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two Gold Stars.
