SgtMaj Ismael G. Bamba
Sergeant Major Bamba was born in Yamoussoukro, Ivory Coast, West Africa. After graduating from High School in Abidjan he immigrated to the United States in August of 1994. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in March of 1999 and began recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina, where he was meritoriously promoted to Private First Class upon graduation. Following Recruit Training, he attended the School of Infantry (SOI) in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, where he received the MOS of 0351, Anti-Armor Assault-man.
His first duty assignment was Golf Company, Weapons Platoon, 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines in Camp Pendleton, California. He was meritoriously promoted to Lance Corporal in December 1999, and deployed twice from July 2000 to January 2003, with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable). He was promoted to the rank of Corporal in 2000 and meritoriously promoted to Sergeant in 2001.
In October 2003, he reported to Drill Instructor School, MCRD, San Diego, California. Upon completion of Drill Instructor School, he was assigned to Kilo Company, 3rd Recruit Training Regiment, where he served as Drill Instructor Senior Drill Instructor and (POI) Manager. He was promoted to Staff Sergeant 2006
In January 2007, Sergeant Major Bamba received orders 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, in Camp Pendleton, California where he served as Infantry Platoon Sergeant for 1st Platoon, Charlie Company during Operation Iraqi Freedom 06-08; Scout Sniper Platoon Sergeant; and Company Gunnery Sergeant for Headquarters and Service Company during Operation Iraqi Freedom 07-92 and 0-91. He was Combat meritoriously promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant 2009.
In August 2009, Sergeant Major Bamba reported to Officer Training Command, Naval Station Newport, Rhode Island where he served three years as a Drill Instructor.
In January 2013, Sergeant Major Bamba was transferred to Marine Corps Detachment Newport, Rhode Island where he served as the Company Gunnery Sergeant and Company First Sergeant. He was promoted to First Sergeant in 2014.
In February 2014, Sergeant Major Bamba received orders to Marine Corps Base Hawaii where he served as Company First Sergeant for Kilo Company, Weapons Company and Headquarters and Service Company with 3d Battalion 3d Marines where he deployed twice to the Pacific Area of Operation on Unit Deployment Program (UDP).
In February 2017, he reported to Marine Corps Base Okinawa, Japan where he served as Company First for Ordnance Maintenance Company (OMC), 3d Maintenance Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment 35, 3d Marines Logistics Group.
In December 2017, he was promoted to Sergeant Major and received orders to Marine Air Control Group 18, 1St Marine Aircraft Wing, where he is currently serving as Sergeant Major for Marine Wing Communication Squadron 18.
Sergeant Major Bamba’ s awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with 4 stars in lieu of fifth award, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with 3 stars in lieu of fourth award and the Combat Action Ribbon.
