SgtMaj Lynn D. C. Brown Sr.
Sergeant Major Brown was born on 21 September 1976. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on 16 October 1995, reported to recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC. Following completion of Marine Combat Training (MCT) he attended his Military Occupational School (MOS) at Camp Johnson, NC for Motor Transport Operations and graduated as a Private First Class in May 1996.
In May of 1996, Sergeant Major Brown reported to 5th Battalion, 11th Marines, Romeo Battery located on Camp Pendleton, California. While stationed at 5/11, Sergeant Major Brown was promoted Lance Corporal and Corporal Meritoriously and attended resident Corporal’s Course. While stationed at 5/11, Sergeant Major Brown departed the United States on a Western Pacific Deployment, Amphibious Ready Group, USS Tarawa (WESTPAC 98), where he earned the MOS of 0121, administrative personnel clerk for on the job training for six months.
In April 1999, Sergeant Major Brown was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and was assigned as the Platoon Sergeant of Motor Transport Platoon. In November 1999, Sergeant Major Brown received orders to Marine Wing Support Group-27, Cherry Point, North Carolina. Prior to departure, he attended resident Sergeant’s Course aboard Camp Pendleton.
In January 2000, Sergeant Major Brown reported for duty at MWSG-27 and was assigned as a Motor Transportation Instructor at Wing Drivers School. He completed Semi-Refueler Course and was awarded a secondary MOS of 3534. He was also assigned as the MWSG-27’s Color Sergeant. In November 2001, Sergeant Major Brown was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant (Meritoriously) and attended Career Course, Camp Geiger, North Carolina soon thereafter.
In March 2002, Sergeant Major Brown reported for duty (unaccompanied) to Marine Wing Support Squadron- 171, Iwakuni, Japan where he worked as the Light Section SNCOIC, Vehicle Coordinator and Training Staff Non-Commissioned Officer (SNCOIC).
In January 2003, Sergeant Major Brown received orders to Drill Instructor School Class 2-03, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California. Upon graduating Drill Instructor School, Sergeant Major Brown was assigned to 2nd Battalion, Fox Company as a Drill Instructor and Experienced Drill Instructor.
In March 2005, Sergeant Major Brown reported for duty to 1st Battalion, 7th Marines as the Motor Transport Operations Chief. In July 2005, Sergeant Major Brown completed Motor Transport Career Course and the Licensing Examiner Course where he earned an additional MOS of 3538. While at 1/7, Sergeant Major Brown deployed to Iraq in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, and held the billets of Motor Transport Chief, Motor Transport Ops Chief and Bn S-4 Chief.
In December 2006, Sergeant Major Brown reported for duty to the Director of Sergeant’s Course, Marine Air Ground Task Force Tactical Command (MAGTFTC) Twenty-nine Palms, California, where he served as the Drill and Ceremonies Instructor, Physical Fitness Instructor, Uniform Instructor and Faculty Advisor for 2nd Platoon.
In April 2008, Sergeant Major Brown received orders back to Drill Instructor School, Class 3-08, MCRD, San Diego, CA. Sergeant Major Brown served as a Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor for Company G, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion. During his tenure in Company G, Sergeant Major Brown also completed Martial Arts Instructors Course earning the MOS 0916.
In November 2009, Sergeant Major Brown was transferred to the Instructor Staff, Drill Instructor School, MCRD San Diego, CA. While assigned to DI School, he served as the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) Instructor and Squad Instructor.
In July 2011, Sergeant Major Brown received orders to Headquarters Battalion, 2D Marine Division, Camp LeJeune, NC. While in HQBn, he was assigned to Truck Co, where he served as the Platoon Commander for Bravo Company and later, Sergeant Major Brown was transferred to Headquarters Company, where held the billet of Company Gunnery Sergeant. While assigned to HQ CO, Sergeant Major Brown was selected as an Individual Augment (IA) for deployment in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM in Afghanistan with Marine Special Operations Command (MARSOC).
In July 2013, Sergeant Major Brown was transferred to Combat Logistics Battalion 5, 1st Marine Logistics Group, Camp Pendleton, CA, where he served as the Company Gunnery Sergeant of Motor Transport Company. While assigned to CLB-5, Sergeant Major Brown completed Motor Transport Staff Non-commissioned Officer Operations Course (MTSNCOOPS) and deployed with the unit support of Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force, Crisis-Response, Central Command (SPMAGTF-CC) led by 5th Marines Regiment as the Command Element.
In May 2015, Sergeant Major Brown was transferred to 3D Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, CA, where he serves as the Company First Sergeant of Company I. During his tenure, the unit conducted a Unit Deployment Program (UDP) to Okinawa, Japan.
In August 2016, Sergeant Major Brown was transferred to Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego where he serves as the Company First Sergeant for Company D, 1st Recruit Training Battalion.
In March 2017, Sergeant Major Brown was transferred to Recruit Training Regiment, where he serves as the First Sergeant of Drill Instructor School for Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, CA.
In November 2019, Sergeant Major Brown was transferred to Marine Wing Communications Squadron 18, where he serves as the senior enlisted leader of MWCS-18, Camp Foster, Okinawa Japan.
Sergeant Major Brown personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with four Gold Stars in lieu of fifth award, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with three Gold Stars in lieu of fourth award.
