SgtMaj Michael L. Youngblood
Sergeant Major Youngblood enlisted in the Marine Corps in January 1999 as an EA-6B engine mechanic
and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California.
In November, 1999 SgtMaj Youngblood reported to Marine Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron 3
(VMAQ-3), MCAS Cherry Point NC. In Nov 2000 SgtMaj deployed to Saudi Arabia in support of
Operation Southern Watch, during this deployment SgtMaj was meritoriously promoted to Corporal in
March of 2001. Upon his return from deployment, he was selected as the Marine Corps Aviation
Association (MCAA) Willie D. Sproule Maintenance Marine of the Year.
In November of 2001, SgtMaj deployed to Turkey in support of Operation Northern Watch, where he was promoted in January 2002 to the rank of Sergeant. In May, 2002 SgtMaj Youngblood reported to Marine Corps Embassy Security Group (MCESG) in
Quantico, Virginia for assignment as a Marine Security Guard. Upon Graduation he was assigned to the American Embassy, San Jose, Costa Rica. In December 2003 SgtMaj reported to American Consulate, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia for duty. During this assignment SgtMaj was promoted to Staff Sergeant.
In June 2005 SgtMaj Youngblood completed embassy duty and reported to VMAQ-1 Cherry Point, NC. While assigned to VMAQ-1 SgtMaj deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) from July 2005 to February 2006, again in January 2007 to July 2007, and again in July 2008 whereas he was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant in October 2008. SgtMaj returned from Iraq in February of 2009 and reported to the SNCO Academy as a student for Advanced Course, deploying shortly after to Afghanistan in support
of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF).
Upon return from Afghanistan In May 2010 SgtMaj Youngblood reported to Aviation Standards Branch (ASB) MCB Quantico Virginia, as the EA-6B Training Analyst supporting the development and transition from MATMEP to ASM. In August 2013 SgtMaj reported to Powerline Division VMAQ-3 and was shortly after selected to the rank of First Sergeant.
In January 2014 SgtMaj Youngblood reported to 2d AABn 2d Mar Div CLNC as the First Sergeant for Company A. In September of 2015 SgtMaj reported to 2d Bn 10th Mar Reg, 2d Mar Div as the First Sergeant for Battery G. In June 2016 SgtMaj deployed on the USS San Antonio (LPD) with 22d MEU, BLT 1/6, Battery G.
In March 2017 SgtMaj Youngblood was selected to attend the United States Army Sergeant Major Academy at Ft. Bliss Texas and was subsequently selected to Sergeant Major that same year. Upon graduation in June 2018 Sergeant Major received orders to 1st Battalion 2nd Marine Regiment in Camp Lejeune, NC as the Battalion SgtMaj. In December of 2018 SgtMaj deployed on the USS Kearsarge (LHD) with the 22d MEU, BLT 1/2 and again in August 2020 SgtMaj deployed to Okinawa, Japan for the Unit Deployment Program (UDP). Upon return from UDP SgtMaj received orders for assignment as the Marine Aircraft Group (MAG) 36 Sergeant Major in Okinawa Japan.
SgtMaj Youngblood is married with five children, he has a Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts, and a Masters degree in Management. SgtMaj Youngblood's personal decorations include Bronze Star with (V), Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one gold star, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star, and the Combat Action Ribbon with one gold star.
