Sergeant Major Joseph Sorgie

Sergeant Major Sorgie enlisted in the Marine Corps in November 1996 from Fort Lauderdale, FL and reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) Parris Island, South Carolina.  Upon completion of recruit training he was assigned to Fort McClellan, Alabama for Military Occupational Specialty training as a Military Police Officer (5811).

In August 1997 PFC Sorgie was selected for assignment to Marine Helicopter Squadron One (HMX-1) Quantico, VA as a Security Guard for the Presidential Helicopter Squadron. In February 2001 Sgt Sorgie was transferred to Headquarters Battalion (HQBN), Headquarters Marine Corps (HQMC), Henderson Hall, Arlington, VA Provost Marshal Office (PMO).

In July 2003 he requested orders to Marine Corps Security Force (MCSF) School Chesapeake, VA.  Upon Completion of training he would transfer to MCSF Company Rota, Spain as a Marine Cadre weapons instructor.  Upon restructuring of MCSF Regiment SSgt Sorgie was reassigned within MCSF Company Rota, Spain.

January 2006, SSgt Sorgie was assigned to Headquarters and Support Battalion, PMO Marine Corps Base (MCB) Camp Lejeune, NC as a Platoon Sergeant/Watch Commander. In March 2007 he requested orders to 2d Military Police Battalion and was assigned as to Bravo Company, as Platoon Sergeant.  November 2007 he would deploy with Combat Logistic Regiment-27 (CLR), 2d Supply Battalion, MP Company to Al Taqqadum, Iraq in Support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as the Company Gunnery Sergeant.  Upon returning in 2008 SSgt Sorgie was re-assigned to Military Police Support (MPSpt) Company, II Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF), Camp Lejeune for its activation.

In September 2008 he was reassigned to II MEF, G-3 as the Antiterrorism and Force Protection Chief and deployed in January 2009 to Al Asad, Iraq in Support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 9-1, 9-2 and Iraqi Sovereignty. 

Upon returning from deployment, GySgt Sorgie requested orders to Marine Corps Embassy Group (MCESG) Quantico, VA and reported for training in May 2010. Upon graduation, In August 2010 he assumed command of Detachment Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia, Region 1.  In September 2011 he was selected by a MCESG panel and approved by the U.S. State Department to assume command of MSG Detachment Moscow, Russian Federation.   

In August 2013 he was ordered to MCB Hawaii, HQBN, PMO as the Physical Security/Services Chief until his selection to First Sergeant.  On January 23, 2014 he was transferred to 1st Battalion, 12th Marines as Battery B First Sergeant. From June until December 2014, he deployed to Okinawa, Japan under the Unit Deployment Program (UDP) assigned to 3d Battalion, 12th Marines.  On March 27, 2015 First Sergeant Sorgie was reassigned to Battery A, 1st Battalion, 12th Marines and deployed under the 12th Marines UDP to 3d Battalion, 12th Marines, Okinawa, Japan. 

First Sergeant Sorgie reported to Headquarters Company, Headquarters and Service Battalion, Marine Corps Installations National Capital Region, MCB Quantico, VA in June 2016.

July 26, 2018 SgtMaj Sorgie assumed his current billet as HMLA367 SgtMaj.
